NASUWT – The Teachers’ Union has published new findings highlighting a concerning rise in misogyny in schools. Based on a survey of more than 5,000 teachers, the research reveals that almost one in four female teachers experienced misogyny from a pupil in the past year. Additionally, one in five teachers reported being subjected to discriminatory language, including sexist, racist and homophobic remarks. Alarmingly, misogynistic comments were frequently made after staff attempted to challenge or manage pupil behaviour.

In response, the union is calling for mandatory professional development to better equip teachers to identify, challenge and safely de‑escalate behaviour linked to online radicalisation, sexism and hate. This report reinforces the urgent need for proactive, whole‑school approaches to tackling harmful attitudes and protecting staff wellbeing.

Join us on the 4th June for our Tackling 'Toxic Masculinity' and Misogyny in Education Settings session 4.30pm to 5.30pm - £24 per person.

Safeguarding in the age of AI - a growing risk we can’t ignore

A new report from the Internet Watch Foundation highlights the alarming rise of AI‑generated child sexual abuse material (AI‑CSAM) online. Drawing on intelligence from specialist analysts, reports to the IWF hotline and monitoring of offender networks, the findings show just how quickly this threat is evolving. The report explores how AI is being used to create abusive imagery, the real‑world harm this causes to children, the emergence of nudification tools and exploitative chatbots, and how this material is becoming increasingly sophisticated, extreme and widespread. Disturbingly, the abuse is highly gendered, with girls most frequently targeted. The report is clear: AI‑generated abuse causes real harm and must be treated with the same seriousness in law, policy and practice as all other forms of child sexual abuse. Governments, tech companies and organisations all have a role to play.

If you want to understand what this means for your organisation and how to strengthen safeguarding in an AI‑driven world, get in touch with me about our Safeguarding in the Age of AI course. Staying informed is a critical part of keeping children safe. https://www.adelegladman.co.uk/contact-us/

NSPCC Learning has just released additional guidance to accompany its 2025 report exploring how Generative AI is shaping children’s safety and wellbeing, both online and offline. The original report drew on a broad evidence base, including in‑depth research commissioned by the NSPCC and delivered by legal technology consultancy AWO. This new publication dives even deeper into AWO’s findings, highlighting the practical mitigations identified by experts across child safety, AI development, and policymaking.

If you work with children, families, or digital safety, this new report is essential reading.

If you want practical, clear guidance on safeguarding in an AI‑driven world, we can help. I have teamed up with Gareth Sykes, an experienced trainer with extensive AI knowledge, to deliver our Safeguarding in the Age of AI course specifically designed for Educators. We offer FREE places for organisations willing to host the session for local education professionals.

Do you know about the new forthcoming mandatory duty to report child sexual abuse?

10/03/2026

The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology has opened a public consultation on how best to prepare children for a future shaped by rapid technological change. They are inviting views from everyone, including children and young people on how digital technologies are used and what measures may be needed to keep them safe.

The consultation explores several key areas, such as introducing potential age restrictions on social media and digital services; limiting design features that encourage excessive use, like infinite scrolling or autoplay; reviewing the digital age of consent; and considering improved support for parents and families. The consultation is open until 26 May 2026.

As organisations and professionals working with children, it is vital that we stay ahead of these developments. That’s why we offer our Safeguarding in the Age of AI training, designed to help you understand emerging risks, strengthen your safeguarding approach, and confidently support children in a rapidly evolving tech landscape.

We are also pleased to offer free training places to organisations willing to host a session for the wider community, for example, by inviting neighbouring schools, colleges, or other local groups to attend. Contact us for more details:- https://www.adelegladman.co.uk/contact-us/
