For some children, eating is not simply a matter of being hungry or choosing what they like.

The smell, texture, appearance or even the thought of certain foods can trigger intense distress, fear or physical reactions.

ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) is a recognised eating disorder that goes far beyond what we commonly describe as ‘fussy eating’.

It can affect a child’s nutrition, growth, emotional wellbeing and everyday life. In severe cases, the medical consequences can be life-threatening.

Recognising the signs matters. These children are not being difficult, and their families are not simply failing to set boundaries.

Understanding is the first step towards appropriate support.

🌈 Strikingly Fun Evening! 🎳✨

Our True Colours SEN Group families had the absolute best evening hitting the bowling lanes and tearing up the arcade! 🌃🎉

From rolling strikes to racing cars and playing air hockey, seeing the determination and massive smiles on the children's faces was truly magical. 🏎️💨🏒

At True Colours, we are dedicated to providing a safe, inclusive, and entirely judgment-free environment where children with additional needs can be exactly who they are. Evening trips like this give our kids the freedom to build confidence and socialise, while our parents can relax, connect, and support one another in a community that truly understands.

A massive thank you to our incredible families, volunteers, and supporters for making evenings like this possible! ❤️

💥 Superheroes assembled at True Colours last night! Our amazing group had an absolute blast diving into a double dose of fun, showing off their creative powers in the art corner with some colorful painting and putting their master-building skills to the test with lots of LEGO.

We have been working hard behind the scenes to wrap up our very first year of financial accounts! We are proud to say that every single penny we received has been meticulously balanced, itemised, and cross-referenced down to the last penny against our NatWest bank statements.

To help us stay robust, grow, and apply for upcoming grant opportunities to support our sessions, we need a friendly volunteer to give our balanced records a quick, independent look and sign a short "Independent Examiner" statement.

Here is the best part: You DO NOT need to be a Chartered Accountant to help us!

Because our annual income is small (under £10,000), charity regulations simply require our examiner to be:

1. Independent (meaning you aren't currently a trustee, related to a trustee, or an active session volunteer with us).

2. Financially Competent (if you are a retired bank manager, work in finance, a school bursar/business manager, a bookkeeper, a local small business owner, or a treasurer for another local club/charity, you are perfectly qualified!).

Since we have already done 100% of the heavy lifting, balancing, and report writing, this will take less than an hour of your time over a cup of tea. It is just a straightforward check of our spreadsheet rows against our bank logs.
