Dearne Valley Country Park Group

15/07/2026

I'm sorry to announce that I am having nothing further to do with this group because of the following reasons.

Council have told me they will not allow me to purchase litter bins nor will they move any and on top of that the ones I made myself are not allowed.
In addition to that I'm fed up with constant delays and slowness in getting anything done in the park and have far better things to do.
Sorry to disappoint those who have contributed and appreciated what has been achieved.

Behind every beautiful park is a team of dedicated heroes. ❤️🧤

Today we’re shouting out the Park Managers and 'Friends of' groups who work year-round to keep our green spaces clean, safe, and blooming. They are the heart and soul of Love Parks Week!

Want to support them? Many of the events on our map are great ways to meet your local volunteer groups and see how you can get involved.

An order has been placed for two adfitional raised flowerbeds. Hopefully will be done within the next month. Have requested funds for shrubs and litter bins. Council extremely slow so bear with us, was hoping to have everything done by now, but snail pace and constant "it's another department" have frustrated the hell out of me.

Great day in the park with Aaron and Lily from Barnsley Council Central Area Team together with Catherine another volunteer. Lots done. Paths cleaned, trees and undergrowth trimmed and cut back. Finished off clearing the Lengthman's cottage and seating area at junction of the two old canals. Thanks to all who participated.

I need to clarify some points in regard this group, what it's purpose is and it's responsibilities. This is because people are under the impression it's to do with anything connected to the park and is beginning to result in unpleasant messages being received as to why things haven't been done.
This group is primarily concerned with volunteering for litter picking, organising group litter picks (which have been uniformly unsuccessful) arranging litter picking equipment to be supplied and as a liaison point with the council in regard to litter in the park.
This site has always tried to assist enquiries not connected to that primary objective, for instance fallen tress, obstructions in the park etc.
I have been guilty of widening the scope of this site by adding details of projects I have undertaken to increase the enjoyment of the park, but this is primarily a personal thing I decided to undertake.
We have nothing to do with the fishing in the park.
In regard to wildlife I am more than happy to post such pictures that are sent to me. However when it comes to deaths of wildlife this must be reported by the person who comes across it to the following government department. DEFRA contact 03459 335577.
I get so many comments/questions about this and I am only a volunteer who like yourselves has many other activities I undertake and therefore am not sat constantly on the computer or phone.
I will not accept comments or messages which I perceive to be rude, obnoxious or in anyway cause ill feeling. Those who do will be blocked from this group.
Please be understanding.
Thanks
