📱 Build An App in 10 Weeks – Barnsley 📱

Are you a business owner or entrepreneur in Barnsley with an app idea? Have you been putting it off because it feels too technical, too expensive or too complicated?

Build An App in 10 Weeks is here to change that! This fully funded programme supports Barnsley and to design, build and launch their own app in just 10 weeks.

No technical background required. Just an idea and the commitment to build.

The programme includes:
✅ 10 structured weekly online workshops
✅ Step-by-step support to design and build your app
✅ Expert mentoring and accountability
✅ Peer community support
✅ Practical outputs — a live, working app by the end of the programme

This programme is funded by Enterprising Barnsley and is completely free for eligible SMEs.

Barnsley Council have secured an investment of £1.6 million to create new jobs for young people across South Yorkshire through Barnsley's Pathways to Work initiative!

Under the scheme, small businesses in Barnsley with fewer than 100 employees can apply for 12 weeks of wage support at National Minimum Wage.

A £1.6 million investment has been secured to create new jobs for young people across South Yorkshire, through Barnsley’s Pathways to Work programme.

The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority has launched a £1.6m Wage Subsidy Scheme, including £320,000 for Barnsley businesses.

Barnsley employers with fewer than 100 staff can apply for 12 weeks of wage support, paid at National Minimum Wage. They can offer flexible roles (16–35 hours per week) and create up to five new jobs, each lasting at least six months.

Young people hired through the scheme will also receive ongoing support from Barnsley Council’s employment specialists, helping them build skills, confidence and a strong start to work.

Born in Barnsley and now influencing national policy, Pathways to Work is breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for homegrown talent.

It was great to join with colleagues from other teams in the council to represent Barnsley Council at the Great Northern Conference held at Doncaster Racecourse yesterday!

As a collective, we shared exciting updates on our current major projects at The Seam Digital Campus, Health on the High Street, and more about all of the exciting opportunities that are currently available in the borough.

🔹 Case Study - Net Zero Barnsley - Mind Body & Spirit 🔹

The energy costs for Barnsley-based, Mind Body and Spirit Barnsley LTD Yoga and pilates studio, were increasing and founder of the studio, Michelle Griffiths, knew that something had to change. Especially as it meant that they were struggling to support the community in the ways they wanted to.

The Net Zero Barnsley programme is a way of helping SMEs in the borough lower their carbon footprint and lower their energy costs. Mind, Body & Spirit received a Low Carbon grant towards solar panels, drawing energy from solar and storing in batteries to use on days where not much energy is produced.

It's been a pleasure to be a part of Sheffield Children's Hospital NHS and Charity's coffee morning today to help launch Pride of Yorkshire in Barnsley!

An informal morning to chat about some of the popular sculptures (similar campaigns have been seen before in the form of elephants and most recently of bears). This time around there will beautifully painted lions and lionesses to find on local trails.

Previously seen in and around Sheffield, this time Barnsley are involved and it would be brilliant to see as many sculptures as possible sponsored and popping up across the borough!
