π Exciting Things Ahead at Barnsley Carers & Loved Ones Cancer Support Group π
We have some wonderful sessions and opportunities coming up over the next few months, and I wanted to share a little glimpse of what's ahead. β¨
π¨ Pieces of Me Project
One of our upcoming projects will be Pieces of Me, a creative scrapbooking and memory-keeping project designed to help people tell their story, celebrate the things that matter most to them, and reconnect with who they are beyond cancer, caring responsibilities or bereavement.
Many people tell me that cancer impacts every part of life. Sometimes we can lose sight of our hobbies, interests, achievements, favourite memories and even parts of our identity whilst focusing on treatment, caring for others or navigating grief.
Through scrapbooking, journaling, photographs, memories, quotes, keepsakes and creative activities, we'll be creating personal books that reflect who we are, where we've been and what matters to us.
πΈ If you'd like to take part, please start having a look through photographs, old cards, letters, tickets, memorabilia, magazine cuttings, meaningful quotes or small keepsakes that you'd like to include. Don't worry if you're concerned about using original photographs, these can be copied.
π Looking After Tomorrow β Practical Information Session
π
Tuesday 18th August | 2PM
We are pleased to welcome Sian from Seaman & Keys, who has kindly offered her time free of charge to provide a practical information session specifically for those living with cancer, carers, loved ones and families affected by cancer.
This is not a sales event.
Instead, the session will provide gentle guidance around some of the practical and legal considerations that many families find themselves facing, including:
βοΈ Wills and future planning
βοΈ Mortgages and housing considerations
βοΈ Financial protection options
βοΈ Workplace and employment considerations
βοΈ Planning ahead during serious illness
These conversations aren't always easy, but they can be incredibly important and many members have previously asked for further information around these topics.
πΏ Potential National Trust Partnership
I am also incredibly excited to share that I have an upcoming meeting with Wentworth Castle Gardens to discuss the possibility of hosting themed sessions and visits for our group.
This is very much in the early stages, but the opportunity to bring people together in such beautiful surroundings for wellbeing, connection and support would be amazing. Watch this space! π³
π Gaia Soul Wellbeing Sessions
We're also going to be welcoming Charlotte from Gaia Soul to deliver wellbeing sessions for our members.
A message from Charlotte: "I know from personal experience how easy it is for carers and loved ones supporting somebody to completely lose themselves in the process. Sometimes people spend so much time being strong for everybody else that they don't get space to breathe themselves."
These sessions are designed to provide exactly that.
Possible activities may include:
π Confidence and self-worth exercises
π Guided reflection and journaling
π Calm discussion and connection with others
π Wellbeing activities tailored to the group
π Optional affirmation and crystal elements
The focus is simply on helping people leave feeling calmer, lighter and more connected to themselves.
β¨ We are also currently in discussions with several other organisations regarding future talks, workshops and activities for members, so there is lots to look forward to.
As always, thank you for being part of the group. Whether you've attended once, attend regularly, or simply follow along online, your support means so much.
