If you’re caring for a loved one, home care or a care home aren’t the only options. For someone whose needs can be safely met at home with the right support, The Old Courthouse Day Centre can offer companionship, meaningful activities and daytime support while they continue living at home.

Why choose our day centre?

🤝 Company throughout the day
Home care visits can provide essential help, but there may still be time spent alone between visits. Our centre offers opportunities to make friends, share conversations and enjoy being part of a welcoming group.

🎨 Something to look forward to
From music, baking and crafts to reminiscence and gentle exercise, we offer activities suited to different interests and abilities, with support to take part at each person’s own pace.

🍽️ Meals enjoyed together
A two-course lunch, refreshments and friendly company make mealtimes a social part of the day.

🏡 Support while continuing to live at home
Day care can provide extra support without a permanent move into residential care, where living at home remains suitable. It can also work alongside home care as part of a wider support plan.

💜 Time for family carers
Regular time to work, rest, attend appointments or catch up on everyday tasks matters too. Supporting carers is part of supporting the whole family.

Every family’s situation is different. Some people need home care, residential care or support around the clock. We’re here to help you explore whether day care could be the right fit for your loved one.

A big thank you to Aroundtown for sharing the story of The Old Courthouse Day Centre CIO and the difference our small charity makes to local people and their families.

We’re so proud of our team and grateful to our members, families, trustees and supporters, including Liddy's Solicitors Ltd, who have helped make this new chapter possible. 💙

Our centre offers friendship, activities, freshly prepared meals and caring support for older people living with dementia, other health conditions or loneliness. It also gives families and carers valuable time for themselves, knowing their loved one is being well cared for.

A newly-established charity in Barnsley has taken over the old Courthouse day centre to ensure the service continues for families in the town.

We’ll have our own stall at St John’s Church, Pen*stone, today from 1.30pm to 4.30pm for the Pen*stone International Day of Older People.

If you’re caring for a loved one, pop over for a chat and find out how our small local charity can support you, your family and our local community.

We’d also love to chat with anyone who would like to support our work. Whether it’s making a regular donation, organising a fundraiser or giving a small one-off donation, every contribution helps us continue providing the support families need to stay together for longer. 💜

There’ll also be a free light lunch, community stalls, music, tours and taster activities.

Attending The Old Courthouse Day Centre can make a genuine difference to both our members and their families.

For our members, we provide:

Small, independent charities can sometimes be overlooked alongside larger national organisations with substantial advertising budgets. Charities like ours rely on local people and the support of our community to keep making a genuine difference.

The Old Courthouse Day Centre CIO supports local older adults, including people living with dementia, disabilities, frailty and social isolation. We also provide vital respite and reassurance for families caring for a loved one.

We are so grateful to Centered- Holistic Therapy for sharing this lovely video of our Multi-Sensory Unit and for generously volunteering her time at the centre each month. 💜✨

She offers relaxing Reiki sessions to our members, staff and volunteers completely free of charge, giving everyone the opportunity to enjoy some peaceful time away from the demands of the day.
