Sadly we have had reports that at 18:15 this evening
Laithes lane/Chatsworth road the vile odour was very apparent
all the way past the garage on carlton road.
It has been reported but if it had affected you please also report it.

It has been amazing that over the last few weeks the odour has reduced and for several day their has been no odour at all. Some residents feel gulls have reduced too.
GRUK say they have processed all of the old stuff which was causing the odour and are controlling volume. They say this should make a difference ongoing. Well done GRUK and thank you for listening to our community.

Update: We have passed 600 signatures. Thank you for your support.

EA have said that Glass Recycling UK are producing a new plan of how to manage the smell on a longterm basis this is is to be submitted at the end of May. GRUK have also been taking on less contaminated material to aim to reduce odour it is believed this should reduce birds. The EA say that the company is voulentary complying. No enforcement has been issued at this point.

Glass, gulls and dust recieved much fewer complaints. Have previously been investigated and do not breach permits. It is hoped the gulls reduce as the waste is being better managed. We have not recieved information on how this has been investigated or when.

Barnsley Council are accountable for declaring a statatory nuisance and seeking action to impose fines and abatement orders. Despite breaches for consecutive months since December, a significant increase in reports and our impact statement the enbironmental agency believe that the council have NOT acknowledge the situation as a statatory nuisance. This is dissapointing.

We are awaiting for a responce directly from Barnsley Council regarding our impact statement. We also await further information requested under the freedom of information act. We have recieved a response from Dan Jarvis and are currently in the process of replying.

If you continue to be concerned about odour, glass, dust, gulls we advise you to keep submitting your complaints to the Environmental agency. Please message the page if you experience the odour so that we can encourage local residents to continue doing the same.

Whilst it is great that GRUK are working with the EA its important that any change or improvement is significant and stands the test of time.

"Hiya it stinks has all morning just been for a drive to see why all the seagulls. Side of building big area not covered full of rubbish all waste just loose that’s what blows through to the fields at the back!"

One of the worst things about the vile odour is that you never know when it will be there. Bank holiday weekends should be about having family and friends around and being able to utilise your garden. This odour makes that impossible to plan.
