Meet our Forest Moons Guide.
Yvonne McDermott is a horticulturist, ecologist and garden designer with decades of experience working within local authorities and as a freelance consultant. She has evolved her knowledge of trees, plants and nature into Forest Moons – combining the waxing and waning cycles of the moon with the wisdom of trees and other forest plants, in the Celtic Tree calendar into an enriching practice of awareness and creativity that encourages us to connect with our own intuition and build a soulful life.

Forest Moons workshops focus on a the qualities and inspiration of one tree / plant and interact with this in creative ways – greeting the plant, delving into its unique properties and inspiration, exploring how it has helped humanity in the past, making a keepsake to take home, singing and feeling into how we may integrate this into our lives. The moon is always visible during the workshop and the pattern of the 8 phases of the cycle is demonstrated and the vital importance of the moon to life on earth explored. Sessions are usually rounded off with a meditative drum journey to receive any insights, nudges or gifts that forest moons may have for each participant.

Due to popular request, Yvonne is currently working on a Forest Moons book, so workshops have taken a back seat for now. Fellow members of the South Downs Hub are instrumental in giving feedback on ideas and drafts of content and gently learn more during each meeting along the way. In due course Yvonne will return to offering workshops and will be open to collaboration with others and providing bespoke sessions for existing groups of friends, families and/or therapeutic groups. She is also keen to share the knowledge to other therapists so that the wonderful world of tree and moon wisdom is available to all.

Meet our Sound Bath therapist.
Marisa Tighe of Hema Sounds is a sound therapist and trained with the internationally renowned Sound Healing Academy in 2019 after retiring from a long career as an education consultant and teacher advisor for children with learning and physical disabilities.

At Hema Sounds Marisa uses instrumental and natural sounds therapeutically to offer relief from stress and pain, to kick start self-healing and creativity or to just offer an opportunity to be kind to yourself and enjoy a well-being treat.

In Sanskrit ‘Hema’ means golden. In Greek it also means blood. She likes the idea that sound vibrations ripple through and stimulate the whole body through our blood, the life-force that runs through us feeding every organ with golden energy.

Marisa uses instruments such as tuning forks, Tibetan singing bowls, gongs, crystal singing bowls, drums, chimes and more to bring balance and harmony to the nervous system in groups every month at The Open Door Health and Wellness Centre or in pairs or to the individual in her studio in Lewes.
