WANI – Exchange is an exciting international climate justice and leadership initiative connecting young people from North Wales and Nigeria. WANI – Exchange is designed to create transformative opportunities for young people, particularly those from underrepresented ethnic minority backgrounds, through:
• International learning experiences and exchanges to empower youth from ethnic minorities.
• Climate justice education and leadership development to raise awareness and build skills in climate justice.
• Cross-cultural collaboration to promote global citizenship.
• Community-driven environmental action to encourage participation in environmental and sustainability initiatives.

Through exchanges, workshops, and collaborative projects, participants will acquire the knowledge, confidence, and connections necessary to effect positive environmental change both locally and globally. They will develop the skills, confidence, and global perspective needed to become future leaders in climate and sustainability.

Why It Matters

Ethnic minority communities are still underrepresented in the environmental and climate sectors. The WANI – Exchange program aims to address this issue by creating inclusive pathways for participation in climate action, promoting diversity, innovation, and global collaboration.
Supported by Taith, an international learning exchange program funded by the Welsh Government, WANI – Exchange represents a significant step forward in strengthening global partnerships and amplifying youth voices in the fight for climate justice.

In addition to its core mission, NWAS is increasingly involved in climate and environmental initiatives. The organisation collaborates with various partners, including the Welsh Government, to ensure that the voices of ethnic minorities are included in efforts to create a more sustainable and inclusive future. Building on this foundation, WANI – Exchange represents a significant advancement in promoting inclusive engagement in climate action.
