This morning Laura and Rachael had the pleasure of being invited to Bloomfield Primary School as part of the P6 and P7 Careers Week.

The young people had some great questions about our job such as what is needed to be a youth worker, what is the favourite part of our jobs, what was a useful thing from school for our job, did we always want to be youth workers, and if I was the boss what would I change about the job (early finish on a Friday I thought sounded good ๐Ÿ˜„).

Thanks for the opportunity to share about youth work and hopefully inspire some of the next generation of youth workers โœจ๏ธ

Laura had a great time in Londonderry Primary School this morning talking to the P7s about the good and bad things about the internet and social media and how to help keep safe online.

The young people were really engaged and took part in the session sharing their knowledge and we had some good discussions around our agree/disagree statements about social media and the internet.

Thanks to Ben and Peter from the Neighbourhood Policing Team Police Ards & North Down for coming along to co-deliver the sessions. Peter, I think the young people still have questions following your 2 truths and a lie ๐Ÿ˜†

๐Ÿ“ฃ Volunteers Needed! โค๏ธ

Our numbers are growing across the North Down YMCA Community Connections programmes which is fantastic! But with that growth comes a real need for more volunteers to help keep things running smoothly.

Weโ€™re looking for friendly, reliable people to lend a hand with:
๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Cooking and serving meals
๐ŸŽจ Supporting classes and activities
๐Ÿช‘ Setting up and tidying away

As a charity, we rely heavily on the generosity of volunteers to keep our programmes going and to continue supporting as many people in our community as possible.

Whether you can give a few hours each week or just occasionally, your help makes a huge difference!

Volunteering with us isnโ€™t just rewarding itโ€™s a great way to:
โœ… Build new skills and boost your CV
โœ… Meet new people and be part of a supportive team
โœ… Experience the feel-good factor of giving back to your community

If youโ€™re interested or would like to know more, please get in touch with Jamie-Lee on 07591840539.

Together, we can continue making a positive difference in North Down ๐Ÿ’ชโค๏ธ

๐ŸŒฟ Join us for the first Critical Voice NI event! Weโ€™re kicking off this new series of reflective seminars with a session on Peacebuilding and Youth Work, inspired by โ€˜A Critical Approach to Youth Sector Peacebuildingโ€™ (Hamilton, Hammond and McArdle 2025).

This interactive event will explore how youth work contributes to peacebuilding in divided and changing societies - asking what it means to practice critically, relationally and with purpose.

Come to discuss, reflect and shape new writing for Critical Voice NI

Today we had Craig and Kelly from the Local Neighbourhood Policing Team with us at Bloomfield Primary School to talk with the P7s about Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB).

We got the young people to think about what might be classed as ASB and it was great to have Craig and Kelly share about how our behaviours can affect others.

Of course we also had to get Craig and Kelly involved in playing a game...the young people love when they get involved too!!

Thanks Police Ards & North Down for your continued partnership with us.
