Blue Lighthouse Surf CIC

Blue Lighthouse Surf CIC Funded learn to surf program supporting the health & wellbeing of those serving our communities in Scotland

The emergency services, NHS, social workers and teachers are all careers that attract people with a sense of duty and a willingness to put others before themselves. Unfortunately, the evidence shows that not enough is done to provide wellbeing support for those people - there is a mental health crisis in public services across Scotland. Blue Lighthouse CIC exists as a not-for-profit community inte

rest company, offering those men and women respite from the daily stresses of their jobs and tangible support for their health & wellbeing, in turn providing a benefit to both the organisations they work for and the wider community by supporting the wellbeing of the people that serve it. Our learn to surf program is an evidence-based intervention that delivers meaningful results for staff resilience and wellbeing, helping those serving in the public sector to carry out their roles at their best without sacrificing their health. With its integration of cold water immersion, exposure to blue spaces, mindfulness, and peer support, our program is a multifaceted approach that supports both physical and mental wellbeing with proven effectiveness.

How surf therapy creates real change for frontline workers πŸ‘‡

Every programme we run follows a clear path - from the resources we bring together, through the sessions we deliver, to the outcomes our participants experience.

Our logic model maps that journey: trained delivery partners and structured programmes leading to measurable improvements in stress, mental clarity, confidence, and coping strategies. Longer term, we're working to reduce isolation, prevent burnout, and support crisis prevention across Scotland's public services.
This isn't guesswork - our pilot showed an 18.4% improvement in participant wellbeing scores.

Healthier frontline workers means healthier communities. A ripple that grows into a wave!

🌊 Our 2026 programme dates are now open for sign-ups. If you're a frontline worker in Scotland, this is for you.

🌊 Our 2026 programme dates are live!

We're excited to announce five funded surf sessions for public sector and frontline workers in Scotland this year:

πŸ“… 23rd April
πŸ“… 7th May
πŸ“… 11th June
πŸ“… 27th August
πŸ“… 17th September

πŸ“ Cullen Beach, Moray Firth

Our sessions are completely free, open to current and former public sector workers, and no surfing experience is needed. All equipment and wetsuits are provided - just bring a towel and your sense of adventure.

We recommend signing up for 2 sessions to get the most from the programme, but one is absolutely fine too.

A huge thank you to our funders and supporters who make this possible: Moray Health & Wellbeing Fund, William Grant Foundation, Blue Coast, Dryrobe, and Mystic.
