We were delighted to see Shanaghan Solomon featured in The Irish Field following his success at the Tullylish RDS Qualifier, where he secured his ticket to Dublin in the Traditional Irish Horse Working Hunter class.

The six-year-old gelding, ridden by Hannah Blakely for Yvette Donaldson, produced an outstanding performance to take the win. By Cappa Casanova and out of the Oke Boy mare Shanaghan Joy, Solomon has continued to progress this season, building on strong results at Balmoral and recording double clears under Show Jumping Ireland rules.

Congratulations to Hannah, Yvette and everyone involved with this talented horse. We are proud to see another homebred Shanaghan horse performing at the highest level and representing the quality, athleticism and versatility of Irish breeding.

We look forward to cheering Shanaghan Solomon on at the RDS Dublin Horse Show.

🏆 Featured in Horse & Hound 🏆

We are delighted to see Shanaghan Velvet featured in this week’s Horse & Hound following an outstanding performance at the BSHA Spring Show at Addington.

Ridden by Will Morton, Pablo showcased his incredible versatility by taking the working hunter championship and the Open Hunter Championship, starting his season successfully both on the flat and over fences.

Congratulations to owner Amanda French, Will, and everyone involved with this very special horse. Pablo continues to go from strength to strength, and we are excited for what lies ahead.

Shanaghan Horses are incredibly proud to see Shanaghan Maestro (Centre Stage x Shanaghan Charlotte), owned and produced by Ann Drabble and expertly shown by Tom Moore, flying the flag once again.

Yesterday at Nottinghamshire County Show, this outstanding young horse won the 3-Year-Old In-Hand Hunter Class before going on to be crowned Champion In-Hand Hunter.

Shanaghan Charlotte continues to prove herself not only as an exceptional mare, but as a remarkable producer, with her progeny consistently achieving success across the show ring and performance world. From producing quality, presence, and athleticism, her legacy within the Shanaghan breeding programme continues to strengthen year after year.

It is always hugely rewarding to see horses we have bred thriving in such capable hands, and we extend huge congratulations to Ann and Tom on a fantastic achievement.

A very exciting future lies ahead for this special young horse.

A lovely mention for Shanaghan Ricochet in the Horse & Hound recently.

Shanaghan Ricochet (Chips), by Lagans OBOS Quality and out of our homebred mare Shanaghan Charlotte, was featured following his novice hunter win at the North of England Spring Show under Robert Walker for owner Jill Day.

As a full brother to Shanaghan Velvet, it is always special to see this family continuing to progress so well, and we are grateful to the Walker team and Jill Day for the care and production that has supported Chips’ journey.

Judge Jenna Tyldesley-Winston described him as “a beautiful stamp of a hunter that has had a great start to his education with a great future ahead of him. He gave me a wonderful ride with an effortless trot that just floated across the ground.”

It is wonderful to see Shanaghan breeding recognised in such respected company, and we are proud to follow Chips’ continued success.

A standout performance from Shanaghan Faith 🥉

3rd in the CCI2*-S at Strzegom Horse Trials, finishing on her dressage score of 29.9 — and a double clear to hold her position throughout.

At just 6 years old, and the only 6-year-old in the field, this is a result that speaks for itself.

Massive congratulations to Rebecca Chiappero for producing her so professionally and allowing her to show her quality.

Faith is out of Shanaghan Scarlett, and this performance reflects the strength of the dam line — correct, capable, and consistent.

A proud day for Shanaghan Horses, and an exciting one for the future.

The Irish Field this week features the Shanaghan Horses system at Shanaghan Hill Farm, in a piece by Helen Sharp.

It outlines how we manage horses and sheep together at Shanaghan Hill Farm—rotational grazing, co-grazing, and a focus on soil and pasture rather than inputs. We haven’t used synthetic fertiliser for a number of years, instead working to build soil biology and improve grass utilisation.

It’s a practical system, developed over time in response to the ground, the climate, and the needs of the animals. Horses are managed as part of the wider farm, not separately, and that integration underpins both health and performance.
