Mardale Pub Quizzes are back! Lee's been in action composing our first one of the season ("a gentle start") due next Sunday October 18th at 8PM.

Can't make that one, put Sunday November 22nd in your calendar instead - and of course there'll be our Boxing Day December 26th annual Charity Quiz as well to look forward to.

Last Saturday's Coast to Coast talk in Bampton by Chris Butterfield, the Alfred Wainwright archivist, raised a total of £122 for our friends at Penrith Mountain Rescue Team with over 40 people attending. We learnt a lot about the history of the walk, watched some fascinating old TV clips and speculated on what AW might have thought about it becoming a National Trail! Thanks Chris.

Are you interested in the work of Alfred Wainwright and especially his Coast to Coast walk of 1973? At Bampton Memorial Hall this coming Saturday 15th August, Wainwright archivist Chris Butterfield is hosting a talk at 3PM on the background to what is now a great National Trail - and will be sharing what Wainwright thought about that possibility.

As the host for so many guests who do the trail, The Mardale Inn is sponsoring the talk and offering attendees 15% off lunch or dinner either side of this weekend (12th to 19th).
