Visitors are being warmly invited to experience the very best of Aberdeenshire this summer, from its dramatic coastline and golden beaches to its rolling countryside, charming towns and attractions.

With longer days and unforgettable scenery, the region remains one of Scotland’s top destinations, offering something for everyone, whether it’s coastal walks, castle trails, wildlife spotting or simply relaxing in one of the many welcoming communities.

At the same time, Aberdeenshire Council and its partners are encouraging everyone to continue the overwhelmingly positive trend of responsible tourism, while reminding visitors that a small minority of behaviours continue to have a significant impact on local communities and the environment.

🌊 BALMEDIE BEACH EXPLORERS 🌊

The Sand Bothy and RSPB Scotland are delighted to be working together this summer to bring you a series of family-friendly beach adventures celebrating the incredible wildlife and natural heritage of Balmedie Beach.

Our coastline is one of Aberdeenshire’s most valuable natural assets. From nesting shorebirds and coastal wildflowers to the rich marine environment just offshore, these habitats support an amazing diversity of life. By helping families explore and understand these special places, we can inspire the next generation of coastal guardians.

These sessions combine The Sand Bothy’s passion for community, learning and connection with nature, alongside RSPB Scotland’s expertise in wildlife conservation, creating fun and inspiring experiences for the whole family.

The flowers along Aberdeenshire's coasts are looking fantastic just now. If you want to learn more about them why not join us for our "Dynamic Dunes and Fabulous Flowers" guided walk at Balmedie Country Park on Saturday 27th June.
Join us on World Sand Dune Day for a walk through the dunes of Balmedie and along the beach to discover how the dunes were formed, how they provide us with protection from the sea and why they are constantly changing. We’ll also look at some of the fabulous flowers that live in the dunes and some of their stories - can they cure your heartburn, stop your feet smelling, tell you if it’s going to rain?

🌊 A Little Hello from The Sand Bothy 🌊

We wanted to take a moment to say hello and check in with our wonderful community.

It’s been a slightly tougher start to the season than we had hoped. Visitor numbers have been lower, sales are down, and we’ve seen fewer school groups visiting for their end-of-term trips. We know the weather certainly hasn’t helped, and like many community organisations, we’re feeling the impact.

That said, we’re still here, looking forward to welcoming you through our doors this summer.

This year is particularly special for us as The Sand Bothy celebrates 10 years of community ownership on 1st July. For a whole decade, the support of our community has helped keep this special place open, thriving, and available for everyone to enjoy. We are incredibly grateful to every person who has visited, volunteered, supported events, made purchases, shared our posts, or simply cheered us on along the way. ❤️

As we head into the summer holidays, we’d love to see familiar faces and new ones too. Whether it’s for a browse, a chat, an ice cream, a walk along the beach, or one of our events, every visit makes a difference.

We’re also keen to hear from you. Is there something you’d like to see happening at The Sand Bothy? An activity, event, workshop, or community initiative that would bring people together and benefit our local area?

Please share your ideas in the comments or send us a message. We’re always open to suggestions and would love to hear what matters to you. We can’t promise it will happen but we will certainly check out the possibilities.
