When you're sitting at the secretary's desk during a meeting in the lodge room and the correspondence is long and your mind starts to wonder.
An old ink well sits on the desk from obviously a bygone era, when opened all you see is a bit of blue paper on the lid and low and behold written on the other side a message written many years ago.

One of the recent seminars held for men's health which is now a daily event held by different orders of the Masonic in Co. Down.

The event was open to members their families and friends. One of the Newry lodges presented a cheque for £600 to prostate cancer at the event and a further £700 was raised for prostate cancer on the day.

A worthwhile seminar giving men of all ages valuable knowledge about their health.

A couple of weeks ago a meeting was held in Newry at which a cheque of £2000 was handed over to the charity Air ambulance N.I.

An interesting talk from one of the charity volunteers was given to the members in attendance and we all came away with a greater understanding of the invaluable service this charity gives to the local community.

Yesterday one of the last installation meetings took place in the Newry hall, the meeting saw people from far and wide in attendance.

Following the meeting a splendid meal was served in the diningroom and for the first time wives/partners (not both) were in attendance to join in the festivities in the diningroom for this particular lodge, not sure what they made of some of the dodgy jokes.

A charity collection as always with type of event took place and everyone was pleased to see over 4 figures being raised for charity.

A good day had by all and now some rest for the members as this marked the end of installation season in the Newry hall.

Happy Easter from everyone at Newry Masonic Hall.

For a lot of you love was in the air yesterday, but in the Newry hall one of the St. Patrick's lodges (77) held their installation which as usual was a faultless meeting followed by good food and company, with visitors from far and wide.
Needless to say a great outcome for their charity work with over 4 figures being collected for charity.

For a number of their new members it was a chance to experience what happens at an installation and see what is expected in the years to come. A good day had by all.

Over the past few weeks and forthcoming weeks Newry Freemasons are attending installations far and wide, a number of these have already taken place in the Newry hall with more still to come. Needless to say a lot of members belts need another notch at the end of these installations.

We've had a number of messages about what happens at these installations.

The simplest way to answer this is, a meeting takes place which the lodge will host, various members from other lodges will get invited and members of the host lodge will invite their friends.

This meeting happens to put members into different offices for the forthcoming year, this could be a new secretary, treasurer and so on.

After the meeting a meal is served were everyone sits down together, this is followed by toasts and speeches, needless to say some of the speeches can be far-fetched and the jokes- maybe less said the better.

The installation meeting is the highlight of the year for each lodge were they showcase the best of their lodge and raise money for charity, its a great way to renew friendships and make new acquaintances.

As we start 2026, the members are starting to get ready for the very busy time of year in Freemasonry, each lodge will be planning their installations which will normally see a change of persons doing different roles within their own lodge, this will accumulate in a special meeting of each lodge attended by members and their visitors. A meal and speeches will follow and usually accompanied by far fetched stories.

This is the time of year when you get to meet new persons, renew old friendships and raise money for charity, a big part of what Freemasonry is about.
