πŸͺˆπŸŽΆ A CLASSIC MID ANTRIM TUNE… AND A PERFECT ONE FOR THE LAMBEG! πŸ₯

The Gortalowry Hornpipe β€” a classic tune and a firm favourite in the fifing tradition around Ballymena and Mid Antrim.

Played on tin whistle by one of the Galgorm fifers, this is the sort of tune that really comes alive alongside the sound of the Lambeg drum. πŸͺˆπŸ₯

β˜€οΈ On a sunny day in Galgorm, we take a drive from the centre of Galgorm village towards Gracehill, with a little traditional music along for the journey. πŸŒ³πŸš—

πŸͺˆ A TUNE THAT HAS BEEN HEARD AROUND COUNTY ANTRIM FOR GENERATIONS… 🎢

β€œGold in Every Pocket” β€” a firm favourite in the fifing repertoire of County Antrim, played here on tin whistle by one of the Galgorm fifers. 🎡

And where better to hear it than beside the River Maine at Galgorm? 🌿🌊

This is traditional Ulster-Scots music, rooted in the fife and drum tradition and passed down through generations. A tune that would have been heard around this part of County Antrim many decades ago β€” and is still being played today. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

🎢 Same tune.

😒 When the night is filled with tears...

πŸ“– Psalm 6:6 (KJV)

"I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears."

These are the words of King David in a time of deep distress. David was weary, troubled, and conscious of being at odds with the Lord.

But compare this with the words he wrote in Psalm 4:8:

πŸ•ŠοΈ "I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety."

What a contrast. πŸ˜’βž‘οΈπŸ•ŠοΈ

There are times when life brings sorrow, anxiety and sleepless nights. But there is also a deeper question: are we right with God?

We may not always be able to be right with everyone. People misunderstand us. Relationships become difficult. Circumstances are beyond our control.

But we can be right with God when we put our trust in His Son, Jesus Christ. ✝️

πŸ™ Prayer

"Heavenly Father, we really want to be right with everyone, but we know it's not always possible. We know it is possible to be right with You when we trust in Your Son, Jesus Christ. Give us the wisdom and the grace to look to Him and so be right with You. Amen."

πŸŒ™ Whatever troubles you carry into the night, don't neglect the most important relationship of all.

Be right with God. Trust in Jesus Christ. ❀️

πŸ“– Psalm 6:6 & Psalm 4:8 β€” King James Version

If this message speaks to you, share it with someone who may need to hear it today. πŸ™

πŸ“– "This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." β€” Psalm 118:24 (KJV)

A beautiful passage from Psalm 118:21–24, accompanied by the stunning coastline of Northern Ireland. πŸŒ…πŸŒŠ

These verses point us towards the Lord's salvation and to Jesus Christ, the Cornerstone β€” the stone which the builders refused, yet which became the head stone of the corner. ✝️

πŸ™ Whatever circumstances this day may bring, God's Word reminds us that this is the day the LORD has made.

May we pause, give thanks, and rejoice in it. ❀️

If these verses encouraged you today, share them with someone who might need them. ❀️

🧢 ARCHIVE DISCOVERY! πŸ“°

While clearing out under the seats in the hall the other night, we uncovered a dusty bundle of old Rowlin Stane magazines.

For younger followers, Rowlin Stane was the legendary Ulster-Scots music magazine published in Galgorm from the late 1950s until the late 1980s (maybe).

It was published three times a day during the week and five editions every Saturday. Nobody really knows why. It just was.

This particular issue stopped us in our tracks... πŸ‘€

🎸 BOB'S ELECTRIC LAMBEG!

Most music fans know about the famous moment when Bob "went electric at Newport in 1965"

What many don't know is that, several years earlier, he had quietly attended the 1962 Galgorm Folk Festival, where he became fascinated by Lambeg drums and their... dynamic acoustic potential.

Within weeks, he was reportedly working alongside Galgorm drum makers to produce the world's first Electric Lambegβ„’.

πŸ”ŒπŸ₯

Unlike modern electronic drums, this beast featured a proper valve amplifier, industrial-grade cabling and a volume control with only two settings:

LOUD and WHY?

πŸ“œ THE EVIDENCE

Naturally, historians remain divided.

However...

A third cousin of Arlo Guthrie allegedly lived at the top end of the Sand Road for several months in the early 1970s.

According to a man whose granda once fixed his bicycle, this third cousin claimed that Arlo personally saw an Electric Lambeg backstage at Woodstock.

This evidence has yet to be checked.

🎣 WHY GALGORM?

Bob was apparently very fond of Galgorm.

He loved the fishing.

He appreciated the scenery.

And he quickly realised there was only one place on earth capable of building an instrument powerful enough to drown out an entire folk audience.

πŸ“¦ WHERE IS IT NOW?

Some believe it belongs in a museum.

Others think it should be displayed beside the greatest instruments in folk music history.

Personally...
..we suspect it's behind three paint tins, an old lawnmower and a broken freezer in a shed somewhere outside Los Angeles.

πŸ“° One thing is certain...

They don't make magazines like Rowlin Stane anymore.

Perhaps it's time for a relaunch?

(Three editions a day, of course. Five on Saturdays.)

🎬 Exclusive Interview – The Galgorm Motion Picture Review

Ahead of the world premiere of The Silence of the Lambegs, Cyril Celluloid, Senior Film Correspondent for The Galgorm Motion Picture Review, sat down with Special Agent (Hon. Bro.) Tibbles, GBI (Galgorm Bureau of Investigation)β€”Galgorm LOL 239 Lodge Cat and the film's leading starβ€”to discuss his remarkable performance.

🎀 Cyril Celluloid: Congratulations on the film. Early audiences are describing your performance as "astonishingly understated." How did you prepare for such a demanding role?

🐈 (Hon. Bro.) Tibbles: Miaow.

🎀 Cyril: Did you immerse yourself in the character using the Stanislavski method, or was your approach more instinctive?

🐈 (Hon. Bro.) Tibbles: Miaow.

🎀 Cyril: We understand you insisted on performing your own stunts, including the now-famous entrance into the barn. Was that a difficult sequence to film?

🐈 (Hon. Bro.) Tibbles: Mrrrp.

🎀 Cyril: Your fellow cast members have praised your professionalism, although several remarked that you occasionally refused to leave your trailer until fresh salmon had been provided. Is there any truth in those reports?

🐈 (Hon. Bro.) Tibbles: ...Miaow.

🎀 Cyril: Some critics have suggested your performance redefines the relationship between silence and suspense. Was that something you consciously set out to achieve?

🐈 (Hon. Bro.) Tibbles: Miaow.

🎀 Cyril: Thank you, Special Agent (Hon. Bro.) Tibbles. As always, insightful, measured and refreshingly humble.

The Silence of the Lambegs opens soon in selected village halls and imaginary cinemas.

🧢 EXCLUSIVE PHOTO RELEASE - AUG 3 2026
Issued by the Galgorm Knitted Press Association (GKPA)

Following several enquiries to the Galgorm Central Telephone Exchange (Communications Division of LOL 239), we can confirm that interest in the first edition of the Encyclopaedia Galgormica has reached unprecedented levels.

Many callers have asked where they can view this rare and valuable publication. Unfortunately, due to its historical importance and considerable estimated value, copies are securely stored within the vaults of the Central Bank of Galgorm under strict supervision.

We have also received numerous enquiries regarding reports that the Telephone Exchange employs our Lodge Cat.

We can confirm this is entirely accurate.

Introducing The Honourable Brother Tibbles, Supreme Feline Director of Communications at the Galgorm Central Telephone Exchange. 🐈 🐈 🐈

Hon. Brother Tibbles oversees much of the important work within the exchange. His official title was selected by himself and while Lodge members of ten years standing may occasionally refer to him as "Tibbles", those of lesser standing are advised to observe the appropriate standards of formality.

Further details on these most dubious historic Galgorm institutions can be found in today's exclusive release:

πŸ₯ EXCLUSIVE - INSIDE THE LOL 239 LAMBEG DRUM TRAINING PROGRAMME

Every year, a small number of promising young Lambeg drums are accepted into the prestigious LOL 239 Drum Training & Selection Programme.

Following 12 months of intensive basic training, one exceptional candidate is awarded the coveted title of Top Recruit.

πŸ… But graduation is only the beginning.

The successful drum is then carefully paired with an experienced human handler for the next stage of its development. This demanding partnership may last 30–40 years, during which the drum gradually gains the confidence, stamina and experience required for public duties.

Only then might it be considered ready for a modest operational role... perhaps Coming In or Going Out of the Field at a Twelfth demonstration.

πŸŽ–οΈ An entire Twelfth? That's another matter altogether.

Most Lambeg drums require 50–60 additional years of advanced service before they are trusted with a full Twelfth demonstration. Great drums are not simply loudβ€”they develop endurance, discipline and adaptability, learning to respond to different drumming styles while bringing out the very best in their players.

🀝 It is a partnership built over decades, sometimes spanning several generations, before drum and drummer finally reach their full potential together.

πŸ”’ Naturally, our award-winning, patented training methods remain highly confidential. Without requiring every follower to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement, we regrettably cannot reveal more.

πŸ˜‰ However, should you decide to join Galgorm LOL 239 then theseβ€”and many other sources of traditional knowledge await.

⚠️ Financial Disclosure: The Central Bank of Galgorm has, on occasion, granted small bursaries to help educate Lambeg drums displaying extraordinary potential. πŸ₯πŸ¦ 🀣🀣🀣

πŸ“’ COMMUNITY NOTICE FROM THE GALGORM BROADCASTING CORPORATION (GBC)

Following our recent report on Lambeg Hibernation, GBC has deemed it necessary in the interests of public understanding to acknowledge the painful and deeply contested history behind this tradition.

Working in partnership with the Galgorm Fictional History Unit and the distinguished archivists of the Encyclopedia Galgormica, GBC is currently producing an exciting new documentary series due for release this autumn.

The attached infographic is an exclusive preview from this work.

πŸ“œ THE LAMBEG CIVIL WAR (1903–1907)

1903 – The First Disagreement
Historians still cannot agree what started it. Tempo? Tea? Whose turn it was to carry the drum? The truth may never be fully known.

1905 – The Great Separation
πŸ₯ Time Drummers remained loyal to the fife at a dignified 85 BPM.
⚑ Club (competition) Drummers rejected convention and accelerated to several thousand beats per minute.

1907 – The Uneasy Peace
Time Drummers put their Lodge Drums to bed after the Twelfth. Club Drummers refused and allegedly drummed until their Christmas dinner was ready.

It is still whispered among some Time Drummers that "some Club Drums should be put to sleep." Historians generally agree this refers only to the drums...

🀝 POSTSCRIPT

As the entire world already knows, Galgorm hosts its annual drumming competition every April.

The event forms part of an ongoing programme of peace-building and community reconciliation, fostering mutual respect, dialogue and understanding between the Time and Club Drumming traditions, regardless of tempo.

πŸ… Each year concludes with the presentation of the prestigious Galgorm Medal for Peaceful Coexistence in Lambeg Drumming, awarded in recognition of an outstanding contribution to harmony within the international drumming community.

Encouraging progress has been made, although discussions continue regarding the internationally accepted definition of "too many beats per minute."

⚠️ Editorial Note: The accuracy of the Encyclopedia Galgormica has on occasion been questioned. As it has been entirely written by us since 1894 we are confident in its fidelity. GBC VERIFY (our data and forensics team) use the encyclopaedia as a primary source of local knowledge. πŸ₯πŸ˜‚

πŸ‘‘ JESUS IS KING.

Sometimes the greatest truths are also the simplest.

A flag. A sign on a tree. A message on a lamppost.

✝️ "Christ died for the ungodly." (Romans 5:6)

The Gospel is a message of hope, grace and love. Christ came to save sinners, to bring peace to troubled hearts and to offer eternal life to all who trust in Him.

No matter where you are or what your past may hold - His invitation remains the same.

Today may you know the joy of His salvation, the peace of His presence and the certainty that Jesus is King. ❀️

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
