Today is World Ovarian Cancer Day 8th May
Ovarian cancer has the highest mortality rates of all the gynaecological cancers.
Your risk of developing ovarian cancer is higher if your family has a history of ovarian, breast, endometrial or colorectal cancer or if you have a BRCA mutation or Lynch Syndrome, so it’s important to consider both your mother’s and father’s history when assessing your risk.

🔴🔴 A cervical smear test does not detect ovarian cancer 🔴🔴

Ovarian cancer is often diagnosed at a late stage. It can be hard to diagnose because the symptoms can be similar to more common and less serious conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) but diagnosing it before it spreads can make it more treatable so it is vitally important to be aware of the symptoms. The most common symptoms of ovarian cancer are: 👇

👉 Persistent bloating of the abdomen.
👉 Difficulty eating and feeling full quickly.
👉 Persistent abdominal and pelvic pain.
👉 Changes in urination or bowel habit.

See your GP if you are experiencing any of these symptoms for more than three weeks. Increased awareness of symptoms and risk factors will help us get to

To help get more women into politics 50:50 NI and leading public affairs agency Stratagem have teamed up to create ‘Hear Her!’ a training programme designed exclusively for women who are interested in getting into elected politics.

This new programme will take place over three evenings with each session addressing an important aspect of the journey into elected politics. ‘Hear Her!’ kicks off with an introduction to Northern Irish politics. This first session will provide an overview of our political and governmental structures here in Northern Ireland. The second session is all about getting your message right. On this evening women will learn all about understanding your audience and how to effectively engage with them. Finally the ‘Hear Her!’ programme will conclude with a session on how to run a good campaign.

All women over the age of 18 are welcome to apply. 50:50 NI is an intersectional organisation and therefore welcome applications from trans women as well as non binary people who would feel safe and comfortable in this programme. To apply just send us an email to [email protected].
