Northern Ireland Amateur Astronomy Society (NIAAS)

Northern Ireland Amateur Astronomy Society (NIAAS) We hold our meetings from September to May at Ballyclare High School on the first Monday of the month and observing sessions all over N.Ireland for beginners!

Founded in 1997, we are a registered charity NIC100233 Formerly known as East Antrim Astronomy Society, the NIAAS now covers counties Antrim, Down, Tyrone and further afield. Open to all members of the public the club meets September to May on the first Monday of the month. All meetings take place in Ballyclare High School, and take the place of an informal lecture on a wide range of astronomy rel

ated topics. The club prides itself on it's accessiblity to new comers to the field and has beginner's events as well as encouraging more experienced members to develop their skills. The annual Andrew Trimble lecture is something a little more special with emminent experts in their field giving presentations. The club's warm and friendly atmosphere had spilled out of the lecture theatre and there is an observing group which meets regularly (weather permitting). For more information on the current year's program, membership and news visit the website at www.niaas.co.uk. Linked to the website you will see the forum where club members and non-members like to meet to chat about all things astronomical and more. This is where you can ask and answer questions, arrange an adhoc observing session or just chat in general. If you don't live local to the meeting venue but are interested in keeping tabs on the club then check out associate membership which allows you to do just that!

Slight delay! 😀

Launch delayed 'til March due to hydrogen leaks, a balky hatch, need to launch a crew to Space Station, and geometry with the Moon.
Next opportunities: March 6, 7, 8, 9, 11.
For the familes & friends it's a big midwinter disruption of plans. For the Artemis crew & NASA it's safety and another month of training and preparation to get it all right.
The Moon will patiently wait.
