The AGM of the Glens and Dalriada u3a was held yesterday. With almost 70 attending, and the sun shinning, it felt like a celebration of another wonderful year of friendship, learning and activity. We thanked those who are moving on from the Committee, and welcomed the new members Arlene Bonnar. Dessie Smyth and Sara Andrews. A special presentation was made to Kathy O'Donnell who has been a Committee Member and our Secretary since the u3a was formed in this area in 2007. Mark Gavin, Chair, gave a glowing introduction, and it wasn't until he mentioned the Christmas Baking demonstration ... with liberal use of brandy ... that Kathy realised he was talking about her! The long standing ovation given by all attending shows the affection and gratitude we all have for Kathy, and the wonderful work she has done. Dominic McNabb, Vice-Chair, presented Kathy with flowers from Jemma Lyons Florist and a gift voucher.

The May Monthly Meeting of Glens & Dalriada u3a takes place next Wednesday, 14th May, in Sheskburn Recreation Centre, and will include our Annual General Meeting.
Our guest speaker next week will be Donna Anderson, who manages the Falls Prevention Team in the Northern Trust in Ballymena. The Falls Team provide advice and support on how to avoid the risks of falling. Donna and her colleagues will be on hand to provide information and individual advice to members.
As older people we are all aware of the impact a fall can have on continued good health in later life, so it’s important we pick up any tips or advice we can get to stay healthy.
The meeting begins at 11.00am, as usual, with tea and coffee served from 10.30am.
I hope to see you there.
