Trustinthepark

Trustinthepark We’re the official charity of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park and we’ve been making a difference since 2012!

With a passionate team and amazing volunteers, we care for nature, connect communities & promote well-being through the great outdoors. We were set up in April 2012, initially as a partnership between Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park Authority, Forestry Commission Scotland and Scottish Natural Heritage with the aim of being an effective mechanism to conserve and improve the landscape an

d ecology of the National Park and to enhance the visitor experience of its countryside. We have now been joined by new partners and we are working to ensure:

• That important habitats are brought into favourable condition
• That opportunities for recreation, access and active travel are increased
• That invasive species are reduced
• That people experience improved quality of life
• That collaboration enables larger and better connected actions on the ground

Stories of the Land is a community heritage project, with Strathfillan Community Development Trust and KAT - Killin & Ardeonaig Community Development Trust, exploring how people and the landscape have shaped each other over time. We’re building a digital archive of photographs, memories and stories to show how life, work and the land have changed across generations, and your images can be part of that.

For the final day of Volunteers Week, we’re celebrating the incredible people who give their time, energy and kindness to support others - and today, we’re delighted to shine a light on Julie. 💚

Julie is one of our incredible Strength and Balance volunteers who has supported our Drymen session since April 2024. Julie brings a fun and social aspect to the class which sees participants return and tell their friends and family about these important local wellbeing and confidence building sessions.

Her commitment to helping older adults stay active, confident and connected truly stands out. It’s no surprise our strength and balance participants share such lovely feedback: “𝘑𝘶𝘭𝘪𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘩 𝘢𝘪𝘳! 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 – 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘰 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘣𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘵.”

Julie has gained so much from her experience volunteering “𝘐’𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘦𝘵 𝘴𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘯𝘰𝘸."

Julie’s story exemplifies the spirit of volunteering: creating spaces where older people feel valued and empowered.💛 Thank you, Julie, and thank you to all our wonderful volunteers - you make this work possible and our communities stronger every day. 💛

🌿✨ 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀’ 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 ✨🌿

This Volunteers Week, we’re celebrating the incredible people who give their time, energy and kindness to support others—and today, we’re delighted to shine a light on Ricky. 💚

As part of our Killin ‘Walk in the Park’ group, Ricky has been a volunteer walk leader since 2022 and is a great advocate of the group not only supporting our activities and participants but helping promote and support our fundraising. Ricky brings quiet encouragement, a listening ear and so much care to the group. His support helps older adults stay active, connected and confident, making a real difference within his local community. 🚶‍♀️💫

It’s no surprise our walking participants share such lovely feedback: “𝘙𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘬 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘥."

Ricky continues to enjoy his volunteering role "𝘐 𝘦𝘯𝘫𝘰𝘺 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴."

Through his kindness and commitment to supporting others' wellbeing Ricky creates spaces where people feel truly welcomed, valued and supported. He embodies the heart of volunteering - bringing people together, boosting wellbeing and strengthening communities, one step at a time. Thank you, Ricky, and thank you to all our wonderful volunteers - you make this work possible and our communities stronger every day. 💛

🌱 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗻

We are thrilled to announce that our new Lomond Nursery is now up and running. Working in partnership with the RSPB Scotland, the site will be used to grow local provenance native plants and trees to help supply nature restoration projects in the National Park. The nursery will be a hub for nature engagement, skills development and volunteering – which we’ll be developing over the coming months, so stay tuned!

🙏 With thanks to funding from NatureScot (through their Nature Restoration Fund), Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park and a generous private donor.

🌿 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗵!

We’re excited to share reflections from Euan Palmer, Community Project Coordinator at Strathfillan Community Development Trust, who came along to our recent Rapid Rainforest Assessment Training workshop in Glenfalloch 🌿

“We had a fantastic day out with Oliver, who helped the group get more familiar with the many lichens and bryophytes found just a short distance from the campsite. We quickly came across an old fallen ash tree, with a range of special species such as tree lungwort and kidney lichen. We didn't go much further, as we slowly browsed around the mature birch and oak woodland, stumbling over a range of wonderful species.

The session finished with the group completing a Rapid Rainforest Assessment, which sparked lots of interesting conversation and thoughts. The day ended with some coffee and cakes, courtesy of Beinglas Campsite (thank you!).

A big thanks to Oliver and Plantlife: saving wild plants for hosting the session, and to everyone who joined on the day!”

🙏 With thanks to National Lottery players and the The National Lottery Heritage Fund .
