Sombre procession coming up the brae at Tigh Phuirt - circa 1950's, unfortunately no dates or names on the back of this old photo.
Two of the three people leading the funeral walk seem quite young , perhaps a father (middle) with his two children.
To the right of the photo is a particularly tall gentleman.

We were recently asked to share this picture which was found in a loft of a cottage here in the village.

It would be good if it could be reunited with his family. Possible names of this gentleman - Donald Aitchison or Dan MacKay who lived at the Gate Lodge before moving up the Glen.
The buildings in the background - Achnacon House.

The picture was carefully taken apart to see if any names or dates were recorded, unfortunately no details.

Today, for the 5th year in a row, I had the privilege of playing at the memorial sevice for the Massacre of Glencoe that took place this date in 1692.

Nostalgic old photo of Glencoe Hotel circa 1950's. The Claymore Filling Station was not even built. The Claymore came later in 1962, a petrol station with additional small information office, the office was run by NTS and Shell and other oil companies and of course later the KRT (Kinlochleven Road Transport).

The NTS later moved to a new purpose built centre with car park opposite Clachaig.

In the winter months the information office was closed, staff in the filling station gave out road conditions and also the ski-ing conditions at the nearby White Corries Chairlift.

Many local people were employed over the years at the Claymore and still are to this day.

A well known entrance into Ballachulish. Craigellachie (on the left of the photo) was named after Hugh and Dorothy Carmichael turned the house into a guest house.

On the right hand side of the photo this fine building had many changes over the years, Barr & Co traded for many years offering ironmongery, grocery and drapery services, as well as offering many other services.

The quarry men working in the nearby quarries would purchase their boots and moleskin trousers for every day work as well as groceries to feed the families.

Barr & Co played a vital role in the community as well as helping to supply the quarry workforce.

Behind the slate wall, shinty matches would be played in the jubilee park, a tradition that still continues today on the same ground.
