Tonight see’s the annual return of one of the funniest and chaotic events of Bakewell Carnival week,

The Wellie and Wheelbarrow race 🥳🎉

Grab a teammate, get your wellies on, find a wheelbarrow and prepare for speed, skill, teamwork… and probably a few wobbles along the way!

Will you be the fastest pair in town? Or will you simply make it to the finish line with your dignity intact? 😅

Come along, cheer on the racers and enjoy a brilliant evening of carnival fun. Better still… get a team together and join in!

🌟 Last night was absolutely FABULOUS! 🌟

Thankyou so much to everyone who turned out to either take part in the raft race or to watch.

Also a huge shout out to all our marshalls (some of them even braved the water themselves🥶). Without your support we would not be able to keep this wonderful tradition going so again thank you from the bottom of our hearts! 🥰

It's Raft Race and Tug of War night!

The rafts will begin assembling on the river side from 6.15pm tonight to be judged before the first raft sets off at 7.00pm so head down to the river to get the best spot!

Then after all the rafters have made their way down the river, the Tug of War will take place on the Recreation Ground at 8.00pm, with teams competing to see who has what it takes to be Bakewell Carnival Tug of War Champions! 💪

🚧 ADVANCE NOTICE – BAKEWELL CARNIVAL ROAD CLOSURES 🚧

Saturday 4 July 2026

⚠️ Road closures will be in place throughout Bakewell between approximately 2:55pm and 4:30pm to allow the annual Bakewell Carnival procession to safely pass through the town. All roads in and out of Bakewell will be affected during this period.

If you’re planning to travel through Bakewell:

🚗 Plan your journey in advance.
🗺️ Consider an alternative route where possible.
⏱️ Allow extra time for your journey.
🚧 Follow all signed diversions and directions from event marshals and emergency services.

Head down to the Recreation Ground tonight!

Get ready to join us from 5.30pm today for the Children's Sports! With activities for children of all ages, who will take the gold? 🏅

After the Children's Sports and the England game, don't miss out on Brass in the Park from 6.30pm to 9.00pm by Rotary Bakewell. With performances from Bakewell Silver Band, Cressbrook Brass Band, Youlgrave Silver Band and Bakewell Youth Theatre, we can't wait to see you there 🎺
