Our mission is simple. Through the delivery of free talks in the local community help our 3 villages become Dementia Friendly.

This page will give you up to date information on how the 3 villages are becoming more Dementia Friendly. The Three Villages Dementia Action Alliance Bagshot, Lightwater & Windlesham Initiative has been created to make a positive difference to the lives of people in our local community living with dementia and those who love them. The initiative has been set up by a small committee: Louise Aartsen

The first ambition of our initiative is to increase awareness of dementia in the area by delivering Dementia Friends Talks to local businesses, to help them understand some of the small, simple and easy changes they can make to become Dementia Friendly. The Three Villages Dementia Action Alliance Bagshot, Lightwater & Windlesham Initiative has been created to make a positive difference to the lives of people in our local community living with dementia and those who love them.

These talks are one hour long and can be delivered to any local groups too, free of charge.

People with dementia avoid places where they feel uncomfortable. With 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK (and with that number set to rise), many businesses have realised that becoming Dementia Friendly improves customer experience and can also help them gain new customers. Improving customer service with greater awareness and small changes can have a big impact on helping people living with dementia to stay part of a local community for much longer. Creating places where people feel comfortable will help to maintain social links as well as retain and maintain customer loyalty valuable to all businesses and services.

When a business gets it right for people with dementia it gets it right for everyone. There are significant risks to not taking action, particularly around staff retention and neglecting the needs of customers, which can result in lost revenue. Research shows that 83% of people with memory problems have switched their shopping habits to places that are more accessible (Alzheimer’s Society 2013). Becoming Dementia Friendly will enable businesses to retain existing customers and attract new ones.

Improved customer service means that knowledge and awareness of dementia will make staff more confident when dealing with all customers. They will have a greater understanding of potential scenarios and as a result will be able to provide better customer service and reduce the number of complaints on similar issues.
