Low Green & Ayr Seafront Trust Limited - LAST

Low Green & Ayr Seafront Trust Limited - LAST A non-profit organisation and recognised Scottish Charity which works to preserve the Low Green, Ayr The threat to these open spaces is constant.

LAST is an non-profit organisation and recognised Scottish Charity which works to preserve for the common good the Low Green, Ayr seafront and other open spaces in Ayr and the surrounding area. Ayr is blessed with wonderful open spaces, particularly at the seafront. Since LAST was founded in 2000, we have been watchful for planning applications and for any other threats of development. LAST has th

en considered whether action or another response was appropriate. That has included lodging objections to planning applications, attending planning meetings and making representations to South Ayrshire Council. We have had many successes, for example LAST was an active objector to the planning application for Phase 2 of the development at Cunning Park, which was refused during 2014. LAST was also instrumental in securing the agreement of South Ayrshire Council to the addition of the Low Green to the Ayr 1 Conservation Area. We need your help! The more members which LAST has, the more effective we can be in achieving our aims. These aims are to the benefit of the people of Ayr and visitors alike. A good example is the Scottish Airshow, which was tremendously successful in both 2014 and 2015. It demonstrated one of the many benefits of having wide open green public spaces in the heart of Ayr. Please consider joining LAST by writing to us at our registered office at 6 Wellington Square, Ayr along with your annual membership fee (£5) and any donation you would like to make. If you are a Taxpayer and wish LAST to obtain Tax Benefit from your donation under the Gift Aid scheme, we can let you have a Gift Aid form to complete. Alternatively, there is an application form and also a Gift Aid form available in the photos section of this page which you can print off. Please also do get in touch by sending us a message through this page! Your membership and support will make a real difference! In the photos section of this page you can also see the plaque at the north end of the Low Green in Pavilion Road which gives some information about the history of the Low Green. The content on our page and in other online media outlets is intended for general information only. The content is believed to be accurate as at the date of posting. LAST Ltd (Low Green & Ayr Seafront Trust Limited) is a company limited by guarantee No 213108 and is a recognised Scottish Charity No SC031862. Our registered office is at 6 Wellington Square, Ayr KA7 1EN.

Good Morning followers. The council plans to allow a funfair to be placed on the Low Green in July. It will last approximately two weeks, closing at 8 or 9pm at night. The aim is to attract visitors to Ayr and raise funds for the Common Good. It has always been the policy of LAST to object to stand alone funfairs as they restrict access to the Green and generate noise, which is an inconvenience to those who live nearby. Funfairs can also attract anti-social behaviour. However the Low Green was gifted to the people of Ayr and so it is for the people of Ayr to decide how their space is used. Our councillors will be able to approve or object to the plans before the Fair goes ahead.

Good Morning folks,
Thank you to one of our followers who drew this to our attention. The management team of Kiosk 2 on the esplanade have applied for an extension to their building. While staying within their footprint they are hoping to increase the width of the building. The Kiosk is in the Conservation Area which includes the Low Green. There was a public consultation relating to this development in 2025. However there is a second chance to comment, now detailed plans are available. The closing date for comments is tomorrow. 26.05.26. So take a look at the plans and have your say.

The deadline for responding to the council's consultation on the building of Mazes on the old putting green is fast approaching. I hear views that it's great use of the space for young families. Others say that we need to keep the space open for walkers and those who want to play football. Benches and flower beds are better than mazes. Make sure you have your say. https://www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/maze-project?fbclid=IwdGRjcARwEYhjbGNrBHARdGV4dG4DYWVtAjExAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkDDM1MDY4NTUzMTcyOAABHrxDxg4yrrztOg37AeXex-kyUi8d5lAyoCrvmZwP2ZbTl17KNguc8UeLeBaf_aem_XTGrArcVlfD28Mp_bZDbZw

The proposed location for the Maze Park is the former putting green on Ayr Esplanade which has been unused for over a decade.

Sometimes you just turn a corner and a view jumps out at you. That happened today with this photo, which was taken on a country road near Symington.
