LAST is an non-profit organisation and recognised Scottish Charity which works to preserve for the common good the Low Green, Ayr seafront and other open spaces in Ayr and the surrounding area. Ayr is blessed with wonderful open spaces, particularly at the seafront. Since LAST was founded in 2000, we have been watchful for planning applications and for any other threats of development. LAST has th

en considered whether action or another response was appropriate. That has included lodging objections to planning applications, attending planning meetings and making representations to South Ayrshire Council. We have had many successes, for example LAST was an active objector to the planning application for Phase 2 of the development at Cunning Park, which was refused during 2014. LAST was also instrumental in securing the agreement of South Ayrshire Council to the addition of the Low Green to the Ayr 1 Conservation Area. We need your help! The more members which LAST has, the more effective we can be in achieving our aims. These aims are to the benefit of the people of Ayr and visitors alike. A good example is the Scottish Airshow, which was tremendously successful in both 2014 and 2015. It demonstrated one of the many benefits of having wide open green public spaces in the heart of Ayr. Please consider joining LAST by writing to us at our registered office at 6 Wellington Square, Ayr along with your annual membership fee (£5) and any donation you would like to make. If you are a Taxpayer and wish LAST to obtain Tax Benefit from your donation under the Gift Aid scheme, we can let you have a Gift Aid form to complete. Alternatively, there is an application form and also a Gift Aid form available in the photos section of this page which you can print off. AYRSHIRE WEATHER FRIDAY.

The cloud was quite stubborn over parts of Ayrshire today but it's finally burning away this evening.

The heat will build further on Friday.

This evening and night, very warm and sunny then clear spells and some mist patches overnight.

A warm night for sleeping.

Hopefully any early cloud will burn away to leave a very warm or hot day with sunny periods.

Patchy high cloud may make the sun hazy at times.

A warm sunny evening will follow.

A wee fly in the ointment on Saturday as a shower or two may develop with less hot but still warm conditions and also sunshine breaking through then it's back to hot and sunny conditions from Sunday lasting into next week.

GET READY FOR A WHOLE NEW VIEW WITH A GIANT FERRIS WHEEL

RETURNS AFTER 40 YEARS – AYR SUMMER SPECTACULAR SET TO LIGHT UP THE LOW GREEN

The countdown is underway for one of the biggest family attractions Ayr has seen in decades as the Ayr Summer Spectacular makes its long-awaited return after 40 years.

From 8 July to 26 July, the Low Green will once again become a hub of family entertainment as rides, attractions, games, food stalls and live entertainment bring the seafront to life.

One of the star attractions this year will be a giant Ferris wheel, offering spectacular views across Ayr, the coastline and beyond. Visitors will have the chance to see the town from an entirely new perspective while enjoying one of the event’s most impressive attractions.

Open daily from 12 noon until 8pm, the event is expected to attract visitors from across Ayrshire and beyond. There will be something for all ages, from thrill rides and family attractions to games and a wide range of food and refreshments.

Set alongside Ayr’s famous beach, the event will recreate the atmosphere many local people remember from years gone by, while introducing a new generation to a traditional summer fair on the seafront.

Ayrshire Daily News is proud to be the official media sponsor of the Ayr Summer Spectacular and will be bringing readers updates and photographs throughout the event.

The return of the Ayr Summer Spectacular is a welcome addition to Ayr’s summer calendar. For many residents it will bring back memories of busy summers on the Low Green, while for younger visitors it offers the chance to enjoy one of the largest family attractions to visit the town in many years.

With free entry and a packed programme of attractions, the Ayr Summer Spectacular is set to be a major draw for families throughout July.
