Employer-supported volunteering (ESV) is when an employer enables employees to take part in volunteering activities through practical support such as paid or unpaid leave, team volunteering opportunities, skills-based opportunities and partnerships with volunteer-involving organisations and/or fundraising initiatives for charities and community groups. ESV may take place during normal working hours, or outwith them with time taken back in line with organisational policies.

However, over 140 million hours of employer-supported volunteering time went unused across the UK last year. That’s equivalent to 75,000 employees working full-time to support communities and individuals.
