⚽️ Friendly Match Result

Final game of the season in a friendly against the Scottish Cup Winners Kilwinning Rangers. Couldn’t get a tougher test to end this campaign but a real opportunity for the boys to test themselves against a top team who were preparing for another final. We were a bit light today in numbers and it was clear the boys were all going to have to put in a big shift.

First half was terrific. Energy levels were top and the boys were forcing Kilwinning into mistakes whilst having a real threat down the flanks. And that was how we got our first goal, a cutting pass from Luke found Kailin who played the ball early across Kilwinning’s 6 yard line for Peter to finish from close range. We looked really dangerous and our pressing play got us the second when Kailin closed down the keeper to score, again from close range. Two goals to the good and we had a couple of great chances to extend our lead. Similar to the first Peter nearly scored from close range but the keeper made a good save. We then hit the crossbar after good work from Scott down the left found Peter who crashed one off the bar. That seemed to spur Kilwinning into action and they managed two goals within 5 minutes of each other to bring the scoreline level at 2-2 on the halftime whistle. A bit disappointing to not go into the break leading, I thought the boys merited it after creating good opportunities.

Into the second half and the team were resilient and defended well with Kilwinning showing a lot of quality in our half. And it was a 20 yarder into the top corner that got Kilwinning the lead. Riley pulled off a couple of good saves to keep us within touching distance. We then had another good spell and a 20 yarder from Johnny crashed off Kilwinning’s post, really unlucky not to find the net and pull us back level. Boys kept plugging away and their energy and application was an example of what they have delivered all season. Unfortunately with 2 minutes to go Kilwinning killed the game with a turn and shot 12 yards out low into the bottom corner.

Couldn’t have been prouder of the boys today, coaches were once again taken aback by their effort levels. The boys showed they can compete at the highest level. Fair play to a very good Kilwinning Rangers team who came back well from a two goal deficit in a game played with real quality from both teams.

After a brilliant season winning the NASA League Title we are looking to kick on again with the addition of a couple of strong players to our squad, all positions considered. We have a committed coaching group who endeavour to develop players and a fantastic group of lads who work hard for each other both in training and games. Plans are already underway for next season:

- Land O Burns tournament in August
- ⁠Barcelona Cup in October ✈️ 🇪🇸
- ⁠Registered for the AYFL dual 2009/10 league for next season

As we are entering a dual league we can consider boys with both a 2009 or 2010 birth year. Training nights are Monday’s and Thursday’s with weekend games falling on a Sunday afternoon.
