Stewarton 09’s 0-2 Ayr Boswell

First league game today in the heat away to Stewarton 2009’s. Noticeable from the get go that we were up against an older team as a few giants playing for Stewarton. Our intensity in the first 30 minutes was tremendous and we created numerous chances, their keeper was pulling off some great saves, particularly when we were through one v one. But our perseverance paid off, a couple of chances in front of goal, then fell to Luke just inside the box and he placed one over the goalie’s head into the top corner. A deserved lead and a tidy finish. It was again perseverance from Pete on the Stewarton bye line where he managed to escape the defender and cross for Scott who met it around 6 yards out and with the keeper getting a hand to it he couldn’t prevent it from going into the corner of the net. 2 nil to the good at halftime but we really felt it could’ve been more. Stewarton put us under some late pressure before the break with set pieces which the defence marshalled well and when their striker got a shot off 18 yards out, Riley was on hand to save well.

Second half we didn’t manage to create as much but we defended well as a team and the substitutes gave us some valuable fresh legs. Boys limited Stewarton to few chances and managed to see the game out with an impressive clean sheet. The intensity and work rate shown today is the level we are going to need throughout the season. Great result and performance.
