Largs Thistle 3-2 Ayr Boswell

Boys made a great start going 1 up after 10 minutes, a great corner met well by Corey who nodded into the net from 6 yards. Game after that was a battle and a pretty even affair, both teams having chances but nothing really clear cut. 10 minutes before halftime Largs striker did well to wriggle free and despite 3 of our players round him we never got a robust enough challenge in and and he let one go into the top corner. 1-1 at the break was probably a fair reflection, but first half we weren’t at our best.

Into the second half and we were on the end of a great strike from the Largs winger who cut in and unleashed one into the top corner from 20 yards. Despite that setback the boys kept plugging away and got back on level terms, a fantastic delivery from Adam from a freekick and it was Corey on the end of it again, riffling a header into the far corner. A great finish, something that is really difficult to do.

Going into the last 10 minutes and whilst Largs had more of the pressure we probably had the best chances on the break. But Largs got what would end up being the winner, we didn’t deal with a long ball into the box and Largs player found himself free at the back post to prod home. Disappointing but we kept pushing for an equaliser and were really unlucky with 3 great chances in the closing minutes, but it just wasn’t to be today. All in all, we didn’t deserve the win but definitely felt with the chances we created we were good value for a point.

Good things have to come to an end some time and today’s defeat ended a fantastic run. Our last competitive defeat, within 90 minutes, in competitive league and cup competitions was the Scottish Cup loss away to Stirling Albion (the Scottish Cup holders at the time) on 22 November 2025. An unbelievable achievement and something to be really proud of as a collective. Hopefully the result today will be something that will spur the boys on again.

Scottish Cup 2nd round away to Troon this morning in really dreich conditions.

Boys got off to a great start, a nice cut back from Scott and a composed finish into the corner by Peter. Next half hour was pretty even with both teams limited to long range strikes on goal. But it was that combination again, Scott from wide finding Peter who smashed one in off the bar into the net. And on the stroke of halftime a long ball flicked on found Brooklyn through on goal who slid it passed the goalie to make it 3 nil going into the break. Very clinical in the first half but message at the interval was not to allow Troon the opportunity to get back into the game whilst trying to get the next goal. But early into the second half a poor clearance allowed Troon to get a goal on the board from nothing. A poor goal to lose but the reaction was good and within 5 minutes we had the 3 goal advantage again. Brooklyn again through on goal who rounded the keeper but was pushed wide. Kailin arrived into the box and with Brooklyn finding him he smashed our fourth into the roof of the net. And it remained 4-1 up until the last 10 minutes when we switched off and allowed Troon to get 3 quick fire goals. Really disappointing when we were comfortable in the game but goes to show concentration levels and game management need to be there right up to the final whistle.

So it meant we headed to penalties and with 2 good saves from Riley and 4 converted penalties from Luke, Kailin, Brooklyn and Corey we made it into the hat for the 3rd round of the Scottish Cup and in doing so maintaining our unbeaten run so far this season.
