Young members attended a Circus Skills workshop with Aerial Edge in Glasgow on Saturday morning.

The class began with team building through throw-and-catch coordination, along with critical stretching warm up routines. Following this, the class were split into groups to focus on developing foundation skills on aerial equipment including trapeze, hoop, and silks. Scouts spent time playing full-body rock/paper/scissors and practicing spins on the competition-grade trampolines.

These skills have contributed towards the unique Circus Skills badge, with attendees achieving 40% of the badge requirements in one session!

We have posted a short video and some photographs of the activities on this page. The activities have inspired leaders to share details on the badge requirements with the team at Aerial Edge. We would encourage other groups across Kyle and Carrick District Scouts, South West Scotland Scouts and the wider Scouts Scotland communities to consider this excellent opportunity to introduce these unique physical and mental skills to develop confidence in our young members.

Galloway District Scouts are on a recruitment drive for new volunteer leaders. It's one of the best things you could ever do! If you know anybody who is keen to learn, responsible, well-rounded and good fun then please do put your hands up!

Last Friday, our Scouts finished off their Friday meetings for the school year with a walk from Alloway to Greenan. We kicked off with some time hearing about the Alloway Tunnel Project.

The Project’s aim was to transform a dark, graffiti-covered and neglected railway tunnel into a vibrant public space that celebrates Ayrshire’s history, culture and people. The finished mural stretches for around 150 metres, making it one of Scotland’s largest hand-painted murals. With the current football theme in mind, we found the picture of Rose Reilly. Born in Kilmarnock she played international football for both Scotland and Italy in her distinguished professional career, indeed she captained Italy to a number of titles too.

Then it was onwards along the old railway line path to the Fish+chips ayr in Doonfoot. Fresh haddock, chips n' sauce with plenty of salt n' vinegar! The food didn’t last long of course, so onwards down to Greenan Shore for pick up.

The weather could have been better but the Scouts were certainly buoyant and cheery.
Thanks to the adult volunteers for supporting us. We are always grateful for assistance from parents and carers, and equally to those who are interested in becoming leaders themselves.

Do let us know over the summer months if you would like to join as a leader. If you have a passion for being active and encouraging young people to become responsible, motivated individuals then you're exactly who we're looking for.
