George & Blessings setting off (22 Jan) with nutritious 'likuni phala' for the pre-school children at Memezi Children's Centre assisted by Abbas Rest. Ingredients are maize meal, soy beans and ground nuts. The cost (incl. some sugar & kitchen salt) is £500 thrice a year.

The Malawi area we assist is suffering drought - this photo (of last Saturday) shows the effect of "almost two weeks now without rains" on the maize crop - while we in the UK have weeks of wet dull days! Their dire dryness encourages us to keep up our efforts to help our friends in Malawi.

Catching up on January news - on the 19th the C&S team distributed writing materials to the students we support at Michesi Secondary and later that day to those we support at Chiringa Secondary, and, at the end of the day, to the primary school. The Malawi Govt no longer charge secondary educ. fees, but they are putting up tax to cover this !!

A faith-based organization in Phalombe, Care and Share, has appealed to the public to support vulnerable people as the Christmas and New Year holidays approach.
The organization’s Project Manager, George Makawa, said many households are struggling to meet basic needs such as food.
He noted that as people celebrate, they should remember those who are less fortunate.
Makawa made the appeal at Chiringa, where Care and Share provided lunch and distributed 20kg bags of maize to 150 beneficiaries, with financial support from Abas Rest of Scotland.
Phalombe District Council Assistant Social Welfare Officer, Stanley Gundeni, lauded the initiative and encouraged others to emulate the gesture.

Last week we supplied solar lights to the orphans and vulnerable children whom we help. Also, those who are boarding asked for food supplies, so this week we gave them food, shown below.

Thanks to all who helped with the Coffee Morning at Ayr St Columba on Saturday - those who attended, those who donated prizes and produce, and those who manned stalls and worked in the kitchen - a good boost to funds plus several new Monthly Donors! In return, we'll put more regular posts on Facebook!

With Abbas Rest and Care&Share helping to organise, the Rotary Clubs of Dunbar, Mid Argyll, Ruherglen and Troon have funded the new toilet block at Chiringa Maternity Unit - Manager George and his team have overseen this project and community rep.s will attend a formal handover later this week.
