📖 The Diary of Fred
Entry 34: Week 38 - Grounded, Betrayed & Seeking Legal Representation

Dear Diary,

This week has been a story of injustice.

It began when I climbed onto the conservatory roof. Again. Now, before everyone starts judging, I would like to point out that I got up there perfectly fine. The issue arose when I wanted the VIP rescue service that usually follows.

So I sat there. And waited. And waited some more. Sim looked at me. I looked at Sim. I screamed. She told me to get down myself.

Dear Diary, I have never experienced such abandonment.

Eventually, while attempting to prove that I absolutely did not need rescuing, I accidentally fell off the conservatory roof.

There was screaming. A lot of screaming. The sort of screaming that suggests multiple bones have shattered and perhaps the end is near.

Naturally, when Sim came sprinting over in a panic, I immediately jumped up and ran off completely unharmed. I don’t see the issue. Following this incident, I have been officially grounded. Apparently climbing onto roofs, refusing to come down, falling off them, and causing cardiac events for the humans is unsafe. Overreaction.

To express my feelings regarding this unfair punishment, I accidentally scratched Sim on the eyelid when she tried to kiss me. And by accidentally, I mean she should have considered the consequences of restricting my freedom.

The injustice continued later in the week when a 12 year old human held me for approximately one second longer than I wished to be held. I responded appropriately. With a punch to the face. Boundaries are important.

As a result of all this oppression, I spent the majority of the week refusing to let Sim touch me.

No cuddles. No strokes. No affection. If she approached, I would leave. If she sat down, I would move. If she looked at me lovingly, I would pretend she didn’t exist.

This protest continued until I was finally allowed outside again. A complete coincidence, obviously.

In summary, I climbed a roof, fell off a roof, survived a roof, got grounded, assaulted multiple humans, and staged a week long emotional protest.

End of log.

I am not just Fred the kitten.

I am Fred - roof enthusiast, professional victim, and freedom fighter.

🌟 Success Story Sunday 🌟

Remember Harry? Well, it turns out his adoption plan wasn’t just to find a home, it was to become a full time shadow. His family report that Harry has fully embraced his new role as a Velcro Cat. Personal space? Never heard of it. Walking from one room to another now requires careful navigation, and there are serious discussions underway about investing in a baby sling just so he can be carried around 24/7. 🥰

The best news? The other four resident cats have welcomed him into the gang, and he’s become best buddies with the resident 9 month old kitty. The two can regularly be found causing mischief, burning off zoomies, and probably plotting world domination.

Most importantly, Harry has discovered that being loved is actually quite nice. He adores cuddles, seeks out affection from the whole family, and has upgraded himself into a fully operational purr machine. ❤️

From rescue cat to professional cling on, Harry is living his best life, and we couldn’t be happier for him.

Keep being wonderfully needy, Harry. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

🕵️ CRACK THE KITTY CASE🕵️‍♂️

It’s time for Case #2 of Crack the Kitty Case! This week’s suspect has been charged with possession of suspiciously bendy legs, walking without a valid sense of direction, and looking like they were assembled from leftover spare parts. Detectives, it’s your turn to examine the evidence… 🕵️🐾

📂 CASE NOTES

You have a kitten showing the following symptoms; legs that appear twisted or bent, walks in a way that can only be described as creative, sometimes resembles a furry spider that assembled itself incorrectly, struggles with balance and coordination, has no idea that anything is unusual and continues to zoom around causing havoc and refuses to let a few wonky limbs interfere with snack acquisition.

📸 EVIDENCE COLLECTED

🕵️‍♂️Kitty is bright and alert
🕵️‍♂️Happy and playful
🕵️‍♂️Loves wrestling siblings
🕵️‍♂️Has mastered the art of getting into places they shouldn’t be
🕵️‍♂️Possesses approximately 17% fewer brakes than the average kitten

Based on the evidence, what condition do you think our suspect is suffering from? Drop your diagnosis below. 👇

Answer will be revealed on Monday.

Meet Mulan and Mushu - a bonded pair of tiny furry weirdos who are looking for a forever home and a human willing to accept that personal space is now a thing of the past.

Mushu is the confident one. Brave. Adventurous. Convinced he is at least three times bigger than he actually is. He’ll happily investigate every room, every bag, every cupboard and every noise that goes bump in the night. Mulan’s approach to life is much simpler; “What's Mushu doing?”.

If Mushu is eating, Mulan is eating. If Mushu is playing, Mulan is playing. If Mushu is staring at a wall for no apparent reason, Mulan will also stare at the wall because clearly something important is happening.

The pair can be shy at first, but once they realise you’re not a serial killer and are, in fact, the bringer of snacks, they become incredibly affectionate. Fusses? Yes please. Love? Endless. Following you around the house like a tiny furry security detail? Absolutely. They’re playful, sweet, and completely devoted to one another. The kind of devoted where Mulan would probably follow Mushu into a cardboard box and stay there for three business days. We genuinely don’t think these two know they’re separate cats.

Applications now open for the role of Official Treat Provider and Professional Fuss Giver. ❤️

🎉 VOLUNTEERS WEEK 🎉

This week, we’d like to take a moment to thank the people who keep Mini Beasts Rescue functioning with what can only be described as sheer determination, caffeine, and the occasional mental breakdown.

A huge thank you goes to-

❤️ Lisa T, Lisa G, Becca, Manda, Shelley, Carleen & John, Sarah & family, Crystal, Ian, Chris, Sophie, Bethan, Val & Alan, Caitlin, Jane, Jean & Harriet, Amanda, Joanna, Alayne, Anthony, Jo, Jemma, Nikki, Kelly, Bekki, Ami, Thanahi, Karen, Kevin & Sasha, Nana & Neovi, Liz, Natalie & Ben, Sonia, Oana, Claire, Louise and Hayley.

These wonderful humans transport animals at ridiculous hours, foster the spicy, the needy and the downright feral, help at fundraising events, answer calls, trap cats, move hutches, clean litter trays, donate supplies, provide emotional support, and occasionally stop Sim and Janine from running away to join the circus.

Some volunteer every week. Some help when they can. Some appear out of nowhere when we’re in a crisis and somehow save the day. Some have moved on but still remain part of the Mini Beasts family.

Whether you’ve transported one furry, helped at one fundraiser, donated your time, listened to us rant, or simply stepped in when we needed an extra pair of hands, you’ve helped save lives.

Rescue isn’t built by one person. It isn’t even built by two slightly overworked women sharing a single brain cell. It’s built by a village of kind hearted people who care enough to make a difference.

To our past volunteers, our current volunteers, and our future volunteers; thank you for the time, energy, patience, support, and occasional willingness to deal with absolute chaos.

Mini Beasts wouldn’t exist without you. 💞 Now please accept this post as payment, because none of us can afford actual salaries. 💚🐾

🚐 TRANSPORT REQUEST 🚐

Does anyone have a van, trailer, lorry, magic carpet, or simply far more practical skills than the Mini Beasts management team?

We need a catio transported from Woodcote to Western Turville. Ideally, we’d love it moved in one piece as it’s roughly the size of a standard shed.

If it absolutely has to be dismantled, we’d need the transporter to handle that too, because between me and Janine we possess the DIY abilities of two startled potatoes. If screws are involved, we’re already out of our depth.

We can offer mileage costs, endless gratitude, and the warm fuzzy feeling of knowing you’re helping us help more furries in need. This catio will give us extra space and allow us to take in and care for even more animals who need a second chance.

So, if you have the vehicle, the skills, or a friend who’s suspiciously good at moving giant wooden structures, please pop us a message!

CHIP IN WHAT YOU CAN - TOMORROW! 💥

Got a pet that needs microchipping? Got a wallet that’s currently surviving on hopes, dreams and the loose change down the back of the sofa?

Tomorrow is our Chip In What You Can event! 🐾

Microchipping is now a legal requirement for cats and has always been a brilliant way to help lost pets find their way home. You decide what you can afford to donate, every penny helps support the animals in our care.

📞 Message us to book your space.
💉 We can chip cats, bunnies and guinea pigs.
⏰ Limited appointments available.
🏃‍♀️ Once they’re gone, they’re gone!

Don’t leave it until your pet decides to audition for The Great Escape.

Book now before Fred volunteers to start microchipping everyone himself. 🥴🐾

At Mini Beasts, we spend a lot of time picking up the pieces when things go wrong.

Lost cats. Unchipped strays. Families heartbroken. And honestly? Most of it is preventable.

We’re launching a Pay What You Can Microchipping Scheme to make sure money isn’t the reason a cat can’t find their way home.

Here’s how it works:
💛 Standard chip = £15 (covers costs)
🧡 Community rate = Pay what you can (minimum £5)
💚 Sponsor rate = £20+ to help another local cat get chipped

No judgement. No awkward questions. Just trust and community. Because this isn’t about profit. It’s about prevention.

Every unchipped animal we reunite faster:
🐱 Frees up rescue space
🐰 Reduces stray stress
🐹 Keeps families together
🐭 Strengthens our local animal welfare network

We’re mobile across Aylesbury and surrounding areas; we come to you.

If you’re struggling, we’ve got you. If you can afford to sponsor another cat, you’re directly helping a local family.

This is what community rescue looks like.
Looking after the furries. Looking after their humans.

Message us to book a slot, sponsor a chip or host a session in your area 📍

We can chip, cats, bunnies & guinea pigs.

Because every Mini Beast deserves a way home. 🧡

We’d just like to take a moment to laugh at the phrase ‘small rescue.’

Currently in our care we have:
🐱 57 cats
🐹 6 gerbils
🐹 1 hamster
🐹 1 guinea pig
🐰 6 bunnies

For those counting at home, that’s 74 animals.

SEVENTY. FOUR.

That’s 74 hungry mouths, 74 tiny personalities, 74 professional troublemakers and approximately 17 million daily requests for food, snacks, second breakfast, emotional support treats and food again just in case we forgot the first time.

The cats are demanding. The bunnies are plotting. The gerbils are conducting experiments. The hamster has somehow become middle management. The guinea pig is simply trying to avoid eye contact with everyone.

As much as we’d love to pay our bills using cat hair and bunny sass, sadly our suppliers insist on actual money.

So we’re putting out a cheeky plea for help.

If you’d like to support our furry army, we’d be incredibly grateful for any donations. Monetary or otherwise 🙏🏻

Every single donation helps us continue rescuing, feeding, medicating, cleaning up after and generally being bossed around by 74 animals who contribute absolutely nothing financially. The audacity, honestly.

Thank you for helping us continue to rescue, rehabilitate and spoil an entirely unreasonable number of furry freeloaders. ❤️
