Rangoonwala Foundation and UK-Pakistan Science & Innovation Global Network announce a 3-year Training Partnership for Capacity Building of Teaching Faculty & Lecturers in Pakistani Higher Education.

The Rangoonwala Foundation and UPSIGN Network are delighted to announce their new partnership to deliver sustainable STEM Education training for undergraduate teaching staff in universities and affiliated colleges in certain parts of Pakistan. Over a three-year period, the UPSIGN training program (developed with expert volunteers from leading UK and Pakistani universities), will facilitate the upskilling of faculty and teaching staff with advanced knowledge & skills. This training will also help the faculty to teach STEM subjects more inclusively, i.e., ensure better participation of girls. The UPSIGN trainers will utilize innovative teaching methods that will help the faculty to better express their passion and knowledge to inspire the next generation of male and female scientists, engineers, and innovators.
The Rangoonwala Foundation firmly believes in the transformative power of education and believes in empowering communities. Meheen Rangoonwala (Director of Rangoonwala Foundation) said "We were impressed by the well thought out expert program and vision for the training that Madiha Sajid and the expert academic volunteers of UPSIGN have devised in consultation with leading Pakistani educationalists and universities, and we look forward to supporting their work across Pakistan."
Madiha Sajid (Education Lead of UPSIGN) mentioned that "We are delighted to collaborate with Rangoonwala Foundation to roll out this important area of training and development. Through a series of interactive workshops, and hands-on exercises, we will provide a stimulating learning environment for STEM educationists, that will foster critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and creativity".
UPSIGN is currently in dialogue with Pakistani educational partners and stakeholders; and will announce a formal application process for potential academic institutions whose staff could benefit from the training program.

Chairperson Prof Parveen Ali chairperson UK-Pakistan Science & Innovation Global Network Special message on the Impact of Recent Flooding in Pakistan.
The impact of recent floods resulting from extremely heavy rain in Pakistan is catastrophic. One-third of the country is unfortunately under water. According to the Pakistan government, more than 33 million people have been affected (this includes 1100 deaths, millions who are displaced, and at least 700,000 homes destroyed). These floods are no doubt because by climate change (amongst other things) and the recovery could take years, needing an investment of > $10 billion. While Pakistan is only responsible for less than 1% of the world's planet-warming gases, it is the 8th most vulnerable to climate change and global warming effects. At such a critical time, Pakistan needs support from us all, including overseas Pakistanis and organizations like UPSIGN, more than ever. We can help those in need through our generous donations to credible and well-organized Charities. This is the most urgent thing that most of us can do right now. Please give generously and encourage others to do so.
In the longer term, UPSIGN and its members, and especially those working on climate change, have a role to play! We can engage with public and private organizations within and outside Pakistan by exploring, highlighting, and addressing the impact of climate change on Pakistan and the world. We need to find ways to address climate change and take action as we can't afford to sleepwalk into the destruction of our planet.
Thank you for your efforts, now and in the future, and please feel free to get in touch with any comments and suggestions as to how we academics and researchers make a difference.
