We managed to get the underside of No 9's saddle tank grit blasted on the 27th August and today we gave it the 1st coat of primer. It will get 1 more primer, then 1 undercoat and a finish coat. The top side still has to be grit blasted but this is a big step forward,

Today we trial fitted the smokebox and the tank to Austerity No 9 (Works No 7097) purely for checking purposes. Some tweaking will be required but on the whole things were good and they will be removed and worked on. The smokebox will mostly be replaced but certain parts will be used. Thanks to Nathan and Alan - and Nigel of course!
