🦉 Meet the Team – The Owls of 1st Awsworth Brownies & Guides! 🦉

Behind every great unit is a team that cares, encourages, and inspires – and we’re proud to introduce the amazing Owls who help make 1st Awsworth Brownies & Guides such a fun and welcoming place for girls to grow.

Our leaders and volunteers work hard to create a space where girls can try new things, build confidence, make friends, and discover just how brilliant they really are. From crafts and games to outdoor adventures and learning new skills, every meeting is packed with opportunities to explore, laugh, and achieve.

We believe every girl should feel brave enough to try, confident enough to lead, and supported enough to be herself. Whether it’s earning badges, helping the community, or simply sharing a giggle with friends, the Owls are here to guide and cheer the girls on every step of the way.

We’d love to welcome more girls into our flock! Brownies and Guides are a fantastic way to build friendships, learn new skills, and have lots of fun along the way.

Today our Brownies and Guides celebrated International Women’s Day in a really special way 💜💚🤍

We started by talking about women who inspire us — from people in history to the amazing women in our own lives. The girls shared their thoughts about what makes someone inspiring and how women support and lift each other up.

To finish, we did something extra special. Each girl wrote a kind message about another Brownie or Guide or leader, sharing something positive about them — whether it was kindness, being a good friend, making people laugh, or always helping others. It was wonderful to see the wall fill up with such lovely words and appreciation for one another.

We ended the evening with a fabulous gift and a special International Women’s Day badge from the leaders for our girls. Every single one of them inspires us in their own way, and we are so proud of the strong, supportive and brilliant young women they are becoming.

A big shout out all the girls who dressed in purple and our own little suffregette. Well done girls for embracing our theme.

Yesterday our Brownies & Guides turned into brilliant little explorers!

We’ve been learning all about maps and symbols, figuring out how they help us find our way and understand the world around us. From spotting familiar signs looking at old maps to see if our houses today were there and if not what was there instead, the curiosity and enthusiasm were just lovely to see.

We also travelled the world without leaving the room – learning new songs about the continents and oceans, sung loudly and proudly.

As leaders, we absolutely loved the energy, the questions, and the excitement for learning.

Every day is a school day – and nights like this remind us how much fun learning can be

What a wonderful way to celebrate Chestnut Owl's 18th birthday on Sunday. Taking the 1st Awsworth Brownies and Guides on our first independent day trip as a unit to Twycross Zoo is sure to be an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

The excitement of exploring the zoo and discovering the incredible animals will create lasting memories for the girls. Not only will they have fun, but they'll also learn about wildlife conservation and the importance of protecting our natural world. And, of course, celebrating Chestnut Owl's milestone birthday adds an extra layer of joy to the day. With laughter, adventure, and a cake to top it off, this will be a birthday weekend to cherish forever. Here’s to a fantastic trip and a very happy birthday to Chestnut Owl!

First meeting of 2026.
Lovely evening of board games & catching up after 5 weeks! We have quite a few competitive characters in our midst that is for sure!!

CHANGE OF LOCATION - THURSDAY 15 JAN

The fantastic group of volunteers at St Peter’s are making it possible for us to meet this evening as the pavilion is out of use. A massive thank you to them for saving the day with 48 hours notice!

Our unit’s volunteers have been working away to get all of the admin required complete, so we are meeting at St Peters Church Awsworth at the usual time.

We really need an extra pair of hands or two to volunteer with our team in order to continue to keep Girlguiding running in Awsworth.

Here’s a picture of our current team (minus Lucy who is currently travelling in Vietnam).
We’re a friendly bunch, so if you are free on a Thursday evening to help us please reach out to us or Google ‘Girlguiding register to volunteer’ and fill in an online form.

Today we’ve taken delivery of 2 large tents to enable us to take our guides camping next summer!

We were successful in our application for these with the RDC foundation, and we are so grateful for their support.

What a fabulous weekend for 1st Awsworth Brownies and Guides at Elton! 🌙✨
Our theme was space — and we had an out-of-this-world time with loads of space-themed activities, delicious food, and plenty of laughter.

Who would have thought our Brownies and Guides would actually sleep until 7:30?! 😄
Even some of our naughty leaders got the giggles late into the night!

We were also treated to some beautiful wildlife — a majestic heron and curious pheasants keeping us company throughout the weekend.

Our girls were amazing - parents should be super proud of them.

What a fantastic adventure — can’t wait for the next one! (Well after a little R&R)

A good night’s rest for all the Brownies, Guides, and Leaders — with just a few early risers in the mix! All is well, the sun is up, and it’s time for a leader’s caffeine fix ☕ while we get breakfast going. We’ve got a fun-filled day ahead — let’s make it a great one!
