The Astwood Bank branch of the Royal British Legion was established on 3 March 1933, becoming a key part of community life in the village.
The branch has always been focused on remembrance, welfare, and fundraising. In the early years, meetings were held in local venues — men’s gatherings were sometimes hosted in pubs like the old Coach and Horses (now the nursery), while separate women’s gatherings took place in community halls, reflecting social norms of the time.

👥 The Need for New Members
Astwood Bank branch depends on volunteers. To ensure that Remembrance events, the Poppy Appeal, and veteran support continue into the future, the branch needs new members and helpers.
You do not need to be ex-service to join.
Anyone who supports the aims of the Royal British Legion is welcome.
Even helping occasionally during the Poppy Appeal or assisting at events makes a meaningful difference.
Without new volunteers stepping forward, there is a real risk that some local activities could reduce over time.
Joining helps safeguard this vital part of Astwood Bank’s history.
