π A MESSAGE FROM THE SHAKERS TEAM π
Unfortunately, tonight's youth session was once again disrupted by individuals who have been repeatedly asked to stay away from Shakers property.
Despite being spoken to on numerous occasions, including last week and again tonight, these boundaries continue to be ignored.
We want to make something very clear. We WANT young people to come to Shakers. That's exactly why we're here. To give them somewhere safe, welcoming and positive to spend their time, make friends and enjoy themselves.
We don't want to issue bans, and we certainly don't want to turn young people away. But rules and boundaries are there for a reason, and when they're repeatedly ignored, there have to be consequences.
Any temporary bans must be respected in full. This means staying away from the entire Shakers property, not just the building, for the agreed period. Those who continue to return during their ban will not be considered to have completed it.
What is particularly disappointing is that every minute our volunteers spend dealing with these disruptions is time taken away from the young people who are there to enjoy themselves, take part in activities and spend time with us.
And that's simply not fair on them.
Our volunteers give their time, energy and commitment to making Shakers what it is. The vast majority of our young people are absolutely brilliant, and they deserve to enjoy their sessions without unnecessary disruption.
Ending sessions early or cancelling future sessions is the very last thing we want, but if these situations continue, we may have no other choice.
We will always encourage young people to make better choices, learn from their mistakes and, where appropriate, return with a fresh start. But that can only happen when our boundaries are respected.
π We've built something worth looking after. Let's not allow the actions of a few spoil it for everyone else.
