Flashback Friday

As Volunteers' Week 2026 comes to a close, we're looking back at Volunteers' Week 2024 and celebrating the volunteers who make a difference in communities across Northumberland.

This photo was taken during our Volunteers' Week 2024 celebrations, when we had the opportunity to thank some of the amazing people who generously gave their time, skills and energy to support others.

Volunteers play a vital role in strengthening communities, supporting local organisations and helping people access the services and opportunities they need. Their contribution continues to make a lasting impact, and we remain incredibly grateful for everything they do.

As we celebrate Volunteers' Week 2026, we'd like to once again say thank you to all volunteers, past and present, for the difference you make every day.

Her kindness, dedication and friendly smile have made a real difference to staff, volunteers and visitors alike.

Thank you, Carol, for everything you have done over the last two years. We are incredibly grateful for your support and the positive impact you continue to make.

Northumberland County Council has launched the Northumberland Public Mental Health Strategy 2026–2031, setting out a county-wide approach to improving mental health and emotional wellbeing. The strategy focuses on three key objectives: Prevention, Early Intervention, and Resilient & Connected Communities.

The strategy highlights the importance of promoting good mental health, reducing inequalities, improving access to support, strengthening community connections, and addressing wider factors that can affect wellbeing, including housing, employment and social isolation.

Developed through engagement with residents, partners and stakeholders, the strategy outlines priorities for the next five years and will be supported by a delivery plan to help measure progress and outcomes across Northumberland.

A new survey is launching to gather views on Ashington Town Centre and help shape future regeneration plans.

The survey is a collaboration between Northumberland County Council and the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority (Formerly known as NECA) and will help understand:

• What people think about the town centre today
• What improvements have already made a difference
• What changes people would like to see in the future

The feedback will help inform the wider £36m Regenerating Ashington Programme and track how local perceptions change as regeneration plans move forward.

The survey launches online on Monday 18 May and will run until Friday 12 June 2026.

If you live, work, visit, or spend time in Ashington, your feedback is important.
