88% of parents and carers support a social media ban for under-16s โ€“ but what does day-to-day life online feel like for young people? ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿค”

This clip is from WIRED, our original co-created theatre show by Ensemble Young Company, developed in partnership by its cast of ten 14-19 year olds and our Mortal Fools creative practitioners. The show explores their experiences of growing up with a phone in their hand. Here, Olivia tries to relax, but a constant barrage of notifications and content leads to her feeling overwhelmed! ๐Ÿคฏ

What do you think? Should we be legislating to regulate access to these platforms, or do we just need more open conversation about the lives weโ€™re all living online? With a Department for Science, Innovation and Technology consultation just completed, change may well be on its way! ๐Ÿ’œ

The film version of WIRED will be released later this year: keep โ€˜em peeled! ๐ŸŽฅ

Time for nature-inspired crafting with the community! ๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿชด

We had a fabulously creative time at our community craft day with Creative Remakery at Hirst Welfare Centre, making beautiful flowers, tree decorations and vibrant pieces that will become part of the festival garden set for our Roots Youth Theatre Festival this June. A huge thank you to everyone who came along, got creative and helped us grow something special together ๐Ÿ’œ

Roots is going to an unmissable celebration of the creativity and imagination of local young people, with performances and activities for all ages. Book your ticket and find out more about via the link in the comments.

What can public health policy makers learn from performance and creative practice? ๐ŸŽญ๐Ÿ’œ

Recently, our CEO Kiz spoke at the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Creative Health, sharing the impact of the MELVA wellbeing programme in schools across the northeast with a national audience. Inspired by the amazing projects represented at the roundtable, happening right across the UK, here are Kizโ€™s three lessons that public health policy makers can learn from how projects like MELVA develop and thrive.

We want to hear from you: how has creativity benefited your health and wellbeing? Let us know in the comments! ๐Ÿ’ฌ๐ŸŽจ

Hear the sound we created at our Feel the Sound workshop ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽง

We had so much fun creating an original catchy song and beautifully painted butterflies to be featured at our theatre festival - Roots, in June! Watch the video to see and hear what we got up to.

Big thanks to our guest professional musician, Calum Howard Music for his music expertise and to Nurtch Coffee House and for the tasty treats!

Huge well done to our Youth Leadership Team for organising and leading this event ๐Ÿ‘

Production manager Craig explains the technical wizardry behind WIRED! ๐ŸŽฅ๐Ÿ’œ

Every year to create our Ensemble Young Company shows, we work with local partner organisations like tech providers Appleby Technical, venues such as Gosforth Civic Theatre and Arts Centre Washington, and producers Meerkat Films to bring the ideas of our cast to life on stage and screen.

Itโ€™s a huge collaborative effort to plan and tour a co-created theatre show with the highest possible production values. A big thank you to Appleby and all our partners for helping to make this yearโ€™s show the best yet. If you missed it on tour, donโ€™t worry โ€“ a filmed version of WIRED will be available online (and hopefully in person, watch this space ๐Ÿ‘€) later this year! ๐ŸŽญ๐ŸŽž๏ธ

What wellbeing advice would you give to your 12-year-old self? ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿ’œ

Our new book Melva Mapletree and the Great Undoing follows nearly-12-year-old as she navigates changes in her relationships and her understanding of the world around her. At the bookโ€™s recent launch, we asked authors Kiz Crosbie and Danielle Slade, illustrator Lily Mae Kroese and North East Combined Authority's Andrew Garrad what advice about navigating the years ahead theyโ€™d give to their childhood selves.

What do you think? What pointers would you like to send back in time? ๐Ÿซต

From stage to screen: Ensemble Young Companyโ€™s performances of WIRED wowed audiences across the North East! ๐ŸŽฌ๐ŸŽฅ

Over March and April, our cast of ten 14-19 year olds toured their show to Gosforth Civic Theatre Newbiggin Sports & Community Hub, and Arts Centre Washington. Co-created with our young people, WIRED explores the impact of growing up in an online world โ€“ it's impactful, honest and gets you thinking.

A filmed version of the show will be ready to share with schools, youth organisations and community groups very soon. Watch this space! ๐Ÿ‘€

Here's some brilliant images from the tour by Von Fox Promotions, capturing the energy, creativity and impact of the production. To everyone who joined us on the tour, a huge, heartfelt thank you!๐Ÿคฉ

What are the mental health benefits of reading for children and young people? ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’œ

Therapist Victoria Beattie from Kalmer Counselling worked with authors Kiz and Danielle on Melva Mapletree and the Great Undoing, an illustrated novel for 9-13 year olds and the latest story in the universe of our MELVA schools wellbeing programme.

The book builds on the programmeโ€™s positive impact in more than 100 schools across the north east, exploring important themes like worries and anxiety, changing self-image and fitting in, dealing with change, grief and loss with humour and sensitivity.

To find out more about the book, check out the link in the comments. ๐Ÿซต๐Ÿ“–
