There is still time to foster a tree for Ashington Community Woods!
So far over 75 people have kindly taken in a baby tree to look after at home until it’s big enough to be planted out in the woods at a community tree planting event next winter (dates tbc!).
If you’d like to be part of the woods, get along to Repurposeful CIC from 4-6pm today or 10-12 on Saturday to collect a tree. Why not explore the scrapstore while you’re there?

It was great to explore the woods with new and old friends this afternoon on our health walk combined with a nature scavenger hunt.
It’s a great time of year to spot bees enjoying the wildflowers. Next time you’re in the woods, why not use the Woodland Trust’s ID sheet or an identification app to find out more about the ecosystem we live in!

Next week is Great Big Green Week!

Nature Walk
We're looking forward to celebrating with a gentle nature walk with Community Links on Monday. To join, just meet us at the stone circle at the entrance to the woods at 12:55. The walk will be a gentle pace and will last roughly 1 hour.

Foster a tree
Our very popular tree fostering scheme will be open again on Wednesday (4-6pm) and Saturday (10-12) thanks to our friends at Repurposeful. Visit the scrapstore (94 Station Road, Ashington) to foster a tree, take care of it and return it for a community tree planting day in the winter when it's bigger and stronger!

Don't forget you can also visit Town Council 's market on Tuesday to find out about more green projects in the area.

Happy Volunteers Week!

Friends of Ashington Community Woods is a small but mighty group of volunteers who are dedicated to taking care of the woodland for the whole community to enjoy.

This morning, we’ve been litter picking, fixing bridges, planting trees and admiring the wild orchids in the meadow!

If you fancy getting involved, send us a message!

An ICE ID bracelet has been found in the woods with the last name Wilson. Please send a message if it belongs to you!

Did you know that the first Sunday in May is International Dawn Chorus Day? A day for people around the world to wake up early and enjoy the symphony of our natural neighbours!

This year (Sunday 3rd May), why not join in? The dawn chorus peaks 30 mins before and after sunrise, so the best time to listen is between 5am and 6am. Listen from your window, your garden or take a stroll to a nearby green space.

If you'd like to film, record or use a bird identification app - that's great! You can share what you hear on social media with the hashtag . If not, just enjoy the show!

The arrival of spring sees one of the UK’s great nature experiences: the dawn chorus. Find out why it happens, what birds take part & where to listen out for it
