Another gorgeous morning in the woods. Today, the Friends of Ashington Community Woods have been maintaining the bridge to the dipping pond. If you’re a fan of dragon flies, it’s worth a visit!

What a lovely day for a bit of volunteering in the woods! We’ve been clearing paths, strimming and litter picking to keep the woods looking its best.

On the way back, we stopped to admire the Miners Memorial Meadow in full bloom, covered in bees and butterflies!

🦋 The Big Butterfly Count: 17th July - 9th August 🦋

The Big Butterfly Count needs your help to monitor the health of our natural environment! In this UK-wide survey, all you need to do is take 15 minutes in an outside place of your choice, and report how many butterflies and moths you spot.
Don’t worry if you’re not an expert: check out the website for identification sheets, find simple steps on how to report your findings and learn how this important data is used!

Be part of this nationwide survey and help take the pulse of nature. Butterfly declines reveal the poor health of the environment. We need your sightings.

🌳 Calling all wildlife enthusiasts! 🌳
A very special thank you to Vicky Bower for setting up an iNaturalist project for Ashington Community Woods - a place that means a lot to her.

iNaturalist is a free app to identify and record wildlife around us to help us learn together while creating data for scientists to support conservation!

You are warmly invited to download the app and join the project to record and share any plants and animals you observe whilst enjoying the community woods.

Well, this is unexpected!

We are both surprised and delighted to hear that not only have we been nominated for a BCC Make a Difference Award, we're FINALISTS in for the Environmental Award!

We may not be a big group but we are proud of the work we do to take care of the Woods; it's such a special place for both people and wildlife. Thank you to everyone who shares our passion.
