Salus Salus We know that families, teachers, youth workers and other practitioners do an amazing job in offering support but may sometimes need some help to do this.

Salus recognises that all children and young people are different and, for any number of reasons, may need support to deal with the challenges they face to ensure they can achieve their potential. At times, a child or young person may benefit from some more specialist or focused support. Salus offer a diverse range of programmes to support the needs of children and young people. This can be in sch

ool, the community or at home. The Project is lead by Peter Heckel and Sally Williamson. For more information about Community Interest Companies, please visit

Think Before You Ask. Think Before You Share.

This Child Safety Week (1–7 June 2026), our colleagues at the i‑THRIVE and Participation Team at Kent County Council (KCC) are launching Don’t Leave Yourself Exposed. The campaign has been developed alongside young people and focuses on n**e and explicit image sharing, funded by Kent and Medway Violence Reduction Unit (VRU).

“Every interaction is an intervention” – Dr Karen Treisman

We’ve come to the end of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week and we hope you’ve enjoyed our posts. We’d like to finish with this quote from Dr Karen Treisman, Clinical Psychologist, whose work we really admire.

We’re thinking about the importance of joyfulness, curiosity, and playfulness when it comes to supporting the mental health of children and young people. Every time we interact with a young person, we have a chance to make a difference through demonstrating that they are valued, safe, and nurtured.

Mental Health Awareness Week 2026

“Children are not service-users, they are experts in how systems feel” – Participation People, 2026.

Children and young people often tell us that they have to share their stories over and again.

For this reason, we’re proud to be part of the broader mental health and emotional wellbeing landscape in Kent which brings together a range of partners to make sure that children and young people feel safe, supported, and nurtured.

Together, we can make a real difference to how systems ‘feel’ for children and young people, and this is a powerful thought as we reflect on Mental Health Awareness Week and the actions we can take to support mental health and emotional wellbeing.

Mental Health Awareness Week 2026

Small Actions = Big Impact!

We’re halfway through the week already! So, let’s have a think about some small actions we can do to take care of ourselves and the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people. Here are some tips from the Mental Health Foundation:

1. Plan something to look forward to.
2. Eat well.
3. Get closer to nature.
4. Get good sleep.
5. Get creative.
6. Move regularly.
7. Try mindfulness.
8. Make time for friends.
9. Be kind.
10. Talk things over with someone you trust.

What are some tips you’ve picked up over time? Do you have any trusted techniques for looking after yourself?

Listening to children and young people

Listening to children and young people is at the heart of our ethos and practice at Salus. We’ve been thinking about the theme for this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week and how significant it might feel for a child or young person when they reach out for help.

We also recognise that asking for help can look different for every child or young person. Communicating a need isn’t always verbal, so remaining curious around what children and young people are telling us can be helpful.

The Victims' Commissioner for England and Wales, Claire Waxman OBE, has launched the 2026 Victims' Survey and they would really value your help in ensuring it reaches those who most need a voice.

The Victims’ Commissioner’s Victim Survey is the only national, independent survey that gathers insights directly from victims across all crime types and stages of the justice process.

These insights help the Victims’ Commissioner understand what’s working, where improvements are needed, and shape the recommendations she makes to improve outcomes for victims.

The survey is open 8 April to 6 May 2026.

It is anonymous, takes around 15 minutes, and is open to anyone aged 16+ who has experienced or reported a crime since January 2021.

Here's how you can help:

1. Share the survey link

Email it through your mailing lists and newsletters.

Mental Health Awareness Week 2026

What does this year’s theme mean to you?

This year's Mental Health Awareness Week theme is about taking action to support good mental health.

Over the next few days, we’ll be thinking about ways to support children and young people to take care of their mental health, because while our individual actions matter, we are even more powerful when we come together.

Growing up in the online world

Technology is amazing! It’s part of our lives in so many ways: we use it to connect with friends, to provide outlets for creativity, and to find opportunities for learning.

But the digital world also comes with some risks and, for this reason, the government has some questions:

Should there be a minimum age for children to access social media?
Should certain things be restricted to discourage lots of scrolling? Like autoplay features, for example?
Should the digital age of consent be raised?
How should age verification technologies work?
Should there be an official policy on the use of mobile phones in schools?
Should there be more options for parental control?

Your voice is important and could help to shape what happens next. They want to hear from children, young people, parents, and carers.

Please see here to complete the survey:

We are consulting on further measures to prepare children for the future in an age of rapid technological change. This includes potential age restrictions on social media and other services such as gaming sites and AI chatbots, restrictions on addictive design features and risky functionalities, and...
