Ashbourne Reborn

Ashbourne Reborn In January 2023, central government approved a Levelling Up Fund (LUF) bid designed to transform Ashbourne town centre.

The latest news and information about Ashbourne Reborn, the £15m transformation of Ashbourne town centre, including £13.4m central government funding PLUS £1.8m matched funding raised locally. The total programme will cost £15.2m of which LUF is contributing £13.4m. The difference of £1.8m is made up of match funding raised locally, including significant funds raised from Ashbourn

e Methodist Church members, friends and grants, as well as grant giving organisations and local businesses. The exciting programme – named "Ashbourne Reborn" is led by Derbyshire Dales District Council working with Derbyshire County Council and Ashbourne Methodist Church as key delivery partners, in collaboration with Ashbourne Town Team, Ashbourne Town Council and AshCom who brought forward project ideas, identified opportunities and raised match-funding for the bid. Derbyshire Dales District Council will be responsible for overall programme management and the programme is made up of two projects. The first, led by the County Council, will transform a series of public spaces including Market Place, Victoria Square, Millennium Square and Shrovetide Walk while works to the road network through the town centre will help transform the pedestrian experience in Ashbourne. The second project, led by Ashbourne Methodist Church, will transform the existing church buildings on the corner of Church Street and Station Road into a community hub, creating space for a wide range of community uses and events. Residents, businesses and visitors can expect to see work starting on the ground from summer 2024. Work is expected to finish by autumn 2025 and will be carefully managed to reduce disruption as much as possible.

NIGHT-TIME CLOSURES 8/9 JUNE
A reminder that Dig Street will be closed at the junction with A515 Church Street/St John Street, and A515 Market Place at the junction with St John Street on 8/9 June from 7pm until 6am for pavement and carriageway repairs.

On the night of 8/9 June, Ashbourne Reborn contractors will carry out permanent repairs on Dig street following temporary repairs made by National Grid in December 2025, due to an underground electrical cabling fault.
A signed diversion will be in place using King Edward Street, Station Road, Church Street Ashbourne.

Carriageway surface improvements will be made at the A515 Market Place (southbound only) between its junctions with B5035 King Street and St John Street. Works will be carried out to plane off the existing road surface and lay new, extra hard wearing material to minimise wear caused by lorries turning at the junction.

A signed diversion route will be in place using the B5035 King Street, Hall Lane South bound only, Park Road, Sturston Road, Station Street, Station Road, Church Street, St Johns Road, Market Place. A one-way restriction (southbound only) will be implemented on Hall Lane to accommodate the diversion and to remove conflict with northbound vehicles.

The timing of these works has been carefully chosen by the County Council to minimise disruption with other utility works and to avoid the late May bank holiday.

This Saturday 16 May the unveiling of a major new community artwork will kick off the programme of events being held at The Link Centre, Ashbourne’s new community hub. The venue will host the unveiling of Stitching Ashbourne, a large-scale textile installation which celebrates the people, places and stories of Ashbourne. The piece has been created by over 200 local participants who joined in workshops over recent months (for ticket information see www.ashbournelink.org.uk/whats-on).
On the same day, the new atrium at the heart of The Link Centre will be open to the public for the first time, and a fundraising walk will use the refurbished Century Hall as the base for refreshments.
These events will mark the culmination of over ten years of work for Ashbourne Methodist Church’s volunteers, who will have successfully raised over £2 million in match-funding towards the development. Over the last 2 years, the buildings have been transformed and will provide a wide range of activities for local people and businesses, including concerts, community events and conferences. Led by Ashbourne Methodist Church, the project is one of the two projects which make up the UK Government funded Ashbourne Reborn programme.

Tony Walker, Project Leader at Ashbourne Methodist Church said:
"Our vision has always been to create a hub that serves the community here in Ashbourne, so it is fitting that our opening events celebrate the people and places of our town.
I’d like to thank the volunteers and partners that have made this possible. We can’t wait to welcome people into The Link Centre next weekend and for many years to come."
