Some great advice from RNLI Portree. Stay safe when swimming
With the hot conditions set to continue over the coming days (this is the taste of summer we’ve been waiting for!) it’s important for us all to stay safe while enjoying the water.
We know that there’s plenty of spaces to swim or relax by the water on Skye and that many of you will be out making the most of the good weather.
The RNLI and Water Safety Scotland are teaming up to remind everyone of how to stay safe. Remember, warm air does not mean warm water. Scotland’s water remains cool when the sun would say otherwise.

It’s also a great time to remind the public of our RNLI Float To Live advice, if you get into difficulty when in the water. Make sure that you always carry a means to call for help, such as a mobile phone in a waterproof case or pouch.
1. Tilt your head back submerging your ears.
2. Relax and control your breathing.
3. Move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat.
4. Your legs may sink - that's OK, everyone floats differently.
