Hope and Faith School was set up in 2003 by retired teacher and education director Mrs Rosemary Mumbi, in Ngombe, Lusaka, to provide schooling for over 500 students who could not get into the state school. Ngombe is a shanty compound deprived of running water and basic sanitary facilities. With a population of over 50,000, securing a place at the school is difficult and highly competitive with vu
lnerable children without means of sponsorship often miss out.
On the 1st of September 2003 the school was opened with only 2 children, by December this number had grown to 40. It went on to be registered with the Zambia Community Schools Association, Registrar of Societies and the Ministry of Education in 2004. It has continued to grow at a great rate and today the school has around 600 children, 33% being orphans, 40% with single parents and 27% from both parent households. Friends of Hope and Faith are a registered charity, who support the ongoing financial needs of the school, through a variety of fundraising activities.
