Eight inspirational women (including our very own Jam Tarts President Fiona O’Leary), were given a special welcome at the Mansell McTaggart Ladies Day as Plumpton Races' Sussex Heroines. 🐎

The event recognised their contribution to local charities and community organisations. ✨

The women, representing Chailey Heritage Foundation, Safe in Sussex, Dame Vera Lynn Trust, Sussex Cancer Fund, Together Co and St Peter and St James Hospice, took centre stage in the Hats for Heroines show, where they modelled bespoke millinery creations by designer Joanna Zara Millinery in a special pre-racing fashion event.
Thanks to fellow Jam Tarts members for coming along to show their support! 😘

This Sunday our WI President will be at Plumpton Races Ladies Day as a Sussex Heroine! Fiona O’Leary is being celebrated for her work with the Sussex Cancer Fund but it all started at the WI….

Racegoers will be treated to the ‘Hats for Heroines show’ - a special runway show where the Sussex Heroines will model hats created by the fabulous Joanna Zara. 👒

Guy Chadwell, CEO of Plumpton Racecourse, said: "These women give so much to the Sussex community and don't ask for anything in return- Inviting them to Plumpton, and putting them right at the heart of the day, felt like a small but important way to say thank you."

We had a fab talk today from Liz Smith - what a talent! 🪡 Liz talked to us about the history & skills of Sasiko and Kawandi, and showed us some amazing examples of her work🧵⭐️
Eco stitching taken to the next level of beauty and practicality - they were absolutely stunning! 🤩
Tea & coffee, plus Victoria sponge, lemon drizzle and rock cakes as standard! 🍰

An added bonus was a visit from next months speaker, Lucy Pitts and previous speaker and author Dee Blick with copies of their amazing magazine
Sussex Exclusive. 😊

in Indian Kawandi quilting and Sashiko Japanese hand stitching.
She's asked if we will join her to add to her hand made quilt with our own words or names. 🪡🧵
