We were delighted to welcome Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal to Applecross on Tuesday 12th May in the lush setting of the AppleSeed Community Gardens and Allotments. Our Chair Dr. Gordon Cameron introduced the Sustainable Living in Applecross Project, delivering community-owned affordable homes and business units in partnership with Dualchas Architects. This project has so far been funded by the Scottish Land Fund, Highland Council’s Community Regeneration Fund, SSE’s Sustainable Development Fund, Crown Estate Scotland’s Community Capacity Grant, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the Scottish Government.
The Princess Royal was introduced to David Davidson from Applecross Roastery and Elodie Matthews of Pomme Cocoa - Handmade in Applecross, who have both expressed an interest in the business units being developed.
The Princess Royal also met our Director Dr. Rachel Maxwell and Operations Manager Megan MacInnes, Ewen Gillies, Chair of community-owned hydro project AppleJuice, as well as Annie Rudd, ACC’s Woodland Development Officer.
This was a fantastic opportunity for ACC to showcase the positive way in which community-owned projects are addressing key local challenges such as the need for affordable homes and economic regeneration.
Thanks to all who helped us get ready for this - volunteers from Appleseed: Grow Your Future, Applecross Walled Garden, Northwind Engineering, Applecross Trust, Applecross Croft and thanks also to Jack Marris from Applecross Gallery for the photos.
