I think Iโm finally ready to talk about our best boy, Sean ๐
On 8th August, we had to say goodbye to him.
It all happened unbelievably quickly. Kidney failure took him from seemingly being himself to us having to make the decision none of us ever want to make in the space of just four or five days. We barely had time to understand what was happening before we were faced with losing him.
Thanks to the incredible compassion of Home Vet NI, Sean was able to leave us peacefully and with dignity, at home, surrounded by love. PetsFarewell Crematorium in Moira were also wonderful when he was brought to them afterwards, treating our boy with the care and respect he deserved.
Sean came to us from Slaughterhouse Survivors in China, alongside his sister Siobhan. What he endured before being rescued meant he had every reason in the world not to trust or love humans.
But Sean being Sean, he did exactly the opposite.
He absolutely loved people. He had the most personable, gentle and loving nature, and I genuinely donโt think anyone ever met him without falling a little bit in love with him. There was just something about him. ๐
He even became a star of the big screen with Movie House Cinemas, although he was already the biggest star in our eyes long before that. ๐
One of the hardest things now is watching Siobhan without him. They came halfway around the world together and shared a life together, and she misses her brother just as much as we do. Weโre making sure she gets all the extra love and attention she needs while we all try to adjust to a home that suddenly feels very different.
I wish weโd had more time. Four or five days to go from having our boy to losing him feels impossibly cruel, and we are beyond devastated.
But what a privilege it was to have him.
After everything humans had done to him, Sean still chose to trust us. He chose to love us. And in return, we got to give him the life, safety and love that he should always have known.
From being rescued in China to a family who absolutely adored him, with a brief career as a cinema star thrown in along the way.
Our beautiful, gentle, funny, loving boy.
The best boy, Sean.
You were loved beyond words, and you always will be ๐๐พ
