Our Senior Ambassador, Michelle attended and Health & Wellbeing Event today in Portrush.

It was great connecting with so many other local community groups and charities, together with those who attended.

Together, Our Light Is Stronger Than Fear

Today, we stand with the many schools, teachers, children and families we work alongside who are wondering if they are safe.

We stand with clients who could not attend appointments because fear made it impossible.

We stand with our groups - cancelled because it is not safe for us to gather for connection or healing.

We stand with our team, and with all our workers and volunteers - including young people, neurodivergent people, racially diverse people, and those already carrying anxiety, grief, trauma or mental health struggles - who rely on coming into our workplace for connection, purpose, routine, wellbeing and community, and who should never have to feel afraid coming to work, volunteering, serving others, or keeping essential support going.

We stand with local businesses and community partners who support this work throughout the year, and who have had to close their doors early to protect themselves and others.

We stand with the peacemakers, the peacekeepers, the helpers, the neighbours, and everyone choosing care for their neighbour.

Things may not be right in our world, and we are deeply aware of the problems.
But we do not stand for violence.
We do not stand for racism.
We do not stand for intimidation.

It is not the answer. It is not the way. It hurts everyone.

Fresh Minds Education exists to support children, young people and the adults around them when they are in emotional distress or grief. That means standing clearly against anything that makes children, families, staff, volunteers, clients or neighbours feel unsafe because of who they are.

We choose courage over what is easy.
We choose kindness over cruelty.
We choose safety, dignity, compassion and community.

And even in dark moments, we choose a glimmer of hope.

This is not weakness.
Glimmers ripple outward.
They illuminate the dark.
And together, our light is stronger than fear.

A Safe Place - The HeartSpace

Over the past week, many children and young people across our communities will have been exposed to frightening events, difficult conversations, images, rumours and uncertainty.

While we don't currently have funding to provide a dedicated response, we do have something powerful: community partnerships and people who care.

In our own small way, we've responded by creating a special summer opportunity where young people can connect, express themselves, build confidence and have fun in a safe, supportive environment.

🎭☀️ Playmakers Summer Studio 🎶✨

Three days of creativity, confidence and show-stopping fun!

🎬 Ages 12–18📅 14th, 15th & 16th August⏰ 9:30am–1:00pm each day💷 £80 for the full three-day experience

Through drama and musical theatre, young people can sing, act, move, create, make friends and discover their strengths in a positive and welcoming space.

We have intentionally kept costs as low as possible ensuring our partner gets a wage and, thanks to our community partner, subsidised places can be made available for families who feel their child or young person would benefit but may struggle with the cost.

🎟️ Spaces are limited👉 Book now: https://bookwhen.com/playsmith

💛 Proudly brought to you by Playsmith in partnership with Fresh Minds Education.

If cost is a barrier, please get in touch. We don't want finances to prevent a young person from taking part.

Sometimes our response to fear, division and uncertainty is simple: create spaces where children can feel safe, connected, creative and hopeful.

Choose Steady ⚖️

What’s been disrupted for children and young people in moments like this isn’t just safety. It’s assumptive safety:

• “My area is basically safe”
• “Violence is far away”
• “Adults are in control of the world”

When that breaks, children don’t only need reassurance. They need their internal map of the world rebuilt.

Not through one conversation, but through:

• repetition
• calm adult presence
• time
• consistency across home, school, and community

Because safety after fear isn’t something we explain.

It’s something children gradually feel being held around them again.

In times like this, especially when there is violence, fear, and reaction spreading in the community, children and young people are watching everything.

They are not just processing the original incident. They are absorbing the response to it.

So the call to adults is simple:

• Stay calm in what you say and share
• Don’t pass on rumours or unverified information
• Shield children from graphic detail and online speculation
• Prioritise steadiness over reaction
• Model the kind of world you want them to believe still exists

Because in the middle of fear and disruption, children and young people. don’t need the loudest voices.

They need the steadiest ones.

A reason A season A lifetime

So this is a different kind of post for us - sometimes in life you meet people for a reason a season or for a life time. At the beginning we thought we met Jennifer for a reason and then the reason became a season and it would seem that the season is transforming into a lifetime. This is a kind and generous person who has been there for us through the hard times and the happy times and we love her very much. Jennifer have a happy 50th birthday and we can't wait to hear what you get up too as you celebrate your beautiful life with all who love you.

Lots of love

One week - small but mighty💪🌟

Right now, somewhere not far from where you are, there is a child or young person carrying grief, loss, anxiety, uncertainty or emotional pain.

They might be struggling silently. They might be acting out. They might be withdrawing. They might simply be trying to get through the day.

Many of the adults around them want to help but don’t always know how.

That’s where we come in.

Behind every workshop, every conversation, every training session, every counselling appointment, every funding application, every mile driven and every email sent is one simple goal:

To help create a world where young people facing life’s toughest challenges don’t have to face them alone.

In just the last six days, our small team has:

• Delivered 65 hours of contact time with 150 quietly vulnerable teenagers through mental health, resilience and personal development programmes.

• Celebrated 11 teachers graduating after a year-long journey of training and delivery of the AMBER Approach in schools.

• Supported 10 children, teens and adults through counselling.

• Sent 18 BAMBER Bereavment Bears to support bereaved children and young people.

• Welcomed another funeral director partner working with BAMBER to ensure grieving children receive support when they need it most.

• Hosted in 3 community partner events.

• Delivered 2 community su***de prevention training and supported 6 other deliveries for teaching staff in schools.

• Completed 2 large site set-ups and takedowns involving 1 van, 8 cars and a lot of teamwork.

• Supported employment for 13 people.

•Supported 4 people through a government employment programme, helping them move towards employment whilst they keep moving the charity forward.

• Supported 2 volunteers who are helping others.

• Established school work placements to help local young people learn new skills, gain confidence and prepare for the future.

• Written and submitted 2 funding applications.

• Produced 1 film.

• Built 1 webpage.

• Illustrated 1 story on the impact of grief for neurodivergent young people.

And alongside all of that came the countless social media posts, emails, messages, phone calls, planning meetings and everyday administration that keeps everything moving.

None of this work is glamorous.

Much of it happens quietly behind the scenes.

But every conversation, every resource, every BAMBER box, every training session and every hour invested helps strengthen the network of adults around children and young people who need support.

This work matters.

It changes lives.

And right now, we do it with no funding for core staff. Our work is carried by fundraising, partnerships and the generosity of people who believe children and young people deserve support when life becomes difficult.

If you would like to help us continue this work, through fundraising, donations, partnerships or simply sharing what we do, we would be deeply grateful.

Together, we can make sure more children and young people know they don’t have to face life’s toughest moments alone.
