Although we dabble in making bread and a handful of cookies and biscuits, the real baker here is our mum. I showed her recipe for Dundee cake on his substack and she wanted to make it. She wasn't sure how it would turn out, but followed the recipe exactly, although she mixed it by hand rather than using a stand mixer.

What an absolutely delicious cake - we can see why it's a favourite, and it's well worth getting Matt's recipe and making yourself. Right! We're away to make another one as we've finished the first one already 🤤 Merry Christmas!

Christmas market weekend at and the BBQ is fired up and ready to serve all the hungry shoppers. New for this weekend is the pulled lamb bun. Lamb shoulder slow cooked in our own recipe mulled wine, served with a festive pickled slaw and a rosemary and orange mayo 🤤 it's delicious! Also available are pulled brisket rolls, with a mayo dressed slaw, the classic Butchery burger with cheese and beef dripping onions, and beef bruchette

Words can't express how proud I am of this guy..

Today Euan was at the Scottish craft Butchers awards. He was nominated for SCQF 6 modern apprentice of the year and was in the final 4 for it. Although he didn't win, it is such a great honour to be nominated for an award,and testament to the hard work he puts, in and the dedication he has to his craft.

I'm glad one of us knows what they are doing! 😅

No big BBQ this month so had a pizza night with Euan Simpson Helen Barlow and Maralyn Simpson-new Obviously I could do ordinary, so made the dough on the day and the lamb birria, pulled pork and finishing sauces the day before. Some might say that BBQ season is over - but not for us! We picked up some beef brochette from Butchery at Bowhouse and made THE best Philly cheesesteak sandwich.

We started by baking our own sub rolls, and grilled the brochette hard and fast - giving crispy caramelised edges while keeping the inside soft, blushing and basted in the melted fat. We also cooked off the sliced onions and peppers in some beef dripping.

To assemble we toasted the sub roll, then added some wholegrain mustard mayo, grilled beef brochette meat, the caramelised onions and peppers and then covered the whole thing in melted mozzarella cheese. Finally we topped it off with our own homemade caramelised onion and cherry tomato chutney. Absolutely epic!

Breakfast of champions! Butchery at Bowhouse are making their own Lorne sausage - and it's amazing!

So we kept it simple.. soft Scottish morning rolls, crushed roasted cherry tomatoes (fresh from our own greenhouse), delicious Lorne sausage, then a layer of pan-fried slices of The Butchery's boudin noir sausage, and topped with a runny yolk fried egg... There is no better way to start the day! 🤤

Sometimes you just need some satisfying comfort food, and our take on zapiekanka - a popular Polish street food - really hit the mark!

First of all we baked a couple of baguettes, flavoured with rosemary, thyme and garlic. These were then split lengthwise and toasted. We then layered up with freshly made mushroom pesto (recipe taken from definitely worth making as it tastes amazing) and added slices of pan-fried pork and garlic sausage from Butchery at Bowhouse , then sauteed mushrooms topped with melted mozzarella cheese, and finished the whole thing with a good squeeze of tomato ketchup. Perfect!

It's Bowhouse market weekend and we picked up some of the best sausages we've ever tried from Butchery at Bowhouse - pork and bacon sausages! Is there a better combo for a tasty breakfast sausage? The meaty juiciness of a pork sausage combined with the flavours from the Butchery's nitrate free bacon - absolutely delicious!

If you want some you need to be quick as they were selling fast, hopefully these might make a more regular appearance in the future.

Lunch today might have been a simple, rustic, affair, but it was so delicious! Pork rillettes spread thickly onto warm bread that wasn't long from the oven. Honestly, life doesn't get much better.

I've heard the Butchery at Bowhouse pork rillettes being described as "the best tasting rillettes outside of France" and having sampled numerous French rillettes that Romain has brought into the butchery I can honestly say that the Butchery's pork rillettes are better than most, and on a par with the very best. Traditional Scottish potted hough that my gran used to make is my secret vice, but these pork rillettes are like the best potted meat, but pork flavoured and better - I could eat it all day. So if you want to try some, and I highly recommend that you do, get over to the Butchery at Bowhouse and grab a jar or two. They are popular, so if you aren't fast you might miss out.

Springtime in Scotland, and strawberry season is just about getting ready to go. What could be better than shortcakes with fresh strawberries and whipped double cream?

Well, this shortcake is the happy result of an experiment by our mum - It's gluten free, but you would never be able to tell tbh. It's light, crumbly, soft, tasty, delicious! Seemed only right to take a photograph. So here is a gluten free shortcake (Recipe will be going in our book) with fresh strawberries macerated in sugar and lightly mashed in the syrup, whipped double cream, and sliced fresh strawberries. Thanks Mum! We're always happy to try tasty experiments!

What a way to start the day.. the Butchers burger - burger sauce, aged beef, fat and bone marrow burger, beef dripping onions, St Andrews farmhouse cheddar cheese, slow cooked, pulled brisket and topped with BBQ sauce all from (should stay selling this as a special!) Butchery BBQ is on this weekend at the market where you have a choice of burger with beef dripping onions and burger sauce, or pulled slow cooked beef brisket with a classic BBQ slaw and a BBQ sauce.
