We believe the only way to safeguard the wildlife and habitat of the north part of Dappers Lane and to ensure the safety of cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders using it to access the South Downs National Park, is to make it a no-through road.

21/07/2025

SURVEY RESULT: 416 responses 56% in favour of closing Dappers Lane to traffic at the north end! And 57% of those whose gave an Angmering postcode. Whether in favour of closure or not, many people have concerns about their safety when walking, cycling etc in the lane, This is clearly a hugely important issue, particularly now with the closure of Water Lane until the end of the year, or longer!

AT A MEETING WITH ANGMERING PARISH COUNCIL on 14 JULY we presented our report on the survey at their full council meeting. A vote was taken on whether the council would support our application to West Sussex County Council for a Community Highways Scheme (CHS) to close the road to vehicles at the north end. We were delighted that this was passed with 5 votes in favour and 1 against. We also have the support of Deborah Urquhart, the West Sussex County councillor for Angmering, who was present at the meeting.
This is all fantastic news, and the best outcome we could have hoped for!

FUTURE OF DAPPERS LANE SURVEY CLOSES 30 JUNE!
Submit your response to https://forms.gle/LYasq9qLyUCJnLgx8

A big thank you to those of you who have already responded, but if you haven't got round to it yet it's not too late. You still have a few days, but don't delay!

The responses so far show serious concerns about safety in Dappers Lane, whether in favour of closure or not. The results of the survey will be discussed with Angmering Parish Council, plus our District and County Councillors, which makes it very important that as many people as possible contribute.

Please encourage your family, friends and neighbours to complete the survey if they haven't done so already.

Paper copies and leaflets with more details are available in the Parish Office, or from Save Dappers Lane by emailing or phoning 07476 348 995.

FANTASTIC NEWS! The application to build on Farmland West of Bewley Road had been refused by Arun District Council's Planning Committee, 6 votes to 3!
Huge congratulations to the PWFBR team for a fantastic campaign!
It is very likely that Gleeson Land will appeal but for now lets celebrate this victory for Angmering and the wider area..

DECISION ON LAND WEST OF BEWLEY ROAD WILL BE MADE AT PLANNING MEETING ON WEDNESDAY 11 JUNE. See full details below.

The Planning Officer has recommended approval of the application but it is the councillors on the Planning Committee who make the decision so, if you can, please go along and help the PFWBR team to fill the public gallery in order to ensure that the councillors see the strength of opposition to this proposal.

The meeting will be held at Arun Civic Centre (1-29 Maltravers Rd, Littlehampton BN17 5LF) at 2pm on Wednesday 11th June. If possible please get there at 1:40pm as everyone has to sign-in.

If you can attend please contact PFWBR direcltly at [email protected] and let them know your name and the name(s) of anyone else you can bring along. They need this information so they can give the Committee Support Team an estimate of how many people will be there.

There have been over 1700 letters of objection sent to Arun District Council, and the campaign has support from Angmering Parish Council, Councillors Andy Cooper (ADC) and Deborah Urquhart (WSCC), and MP Dr Beccy Cooper. This is surely the best hope that we have ever had of getting a planning application refused. The village is saying loud and clear- enough is enough!

UPDATE: Speed limit reduction in Dappers Lane!
The results of the public consultation in November 2024 showed that public opinion was in favour of reducing the speed limit to 20 mph, but that this should be for the full length of the lane, not the short section proposed.
West Sussex are now looking into this and we expect a further public consultation. We will let you know.......
