The Hawk Conservancy Trust is an award-winning charity and visitor attraction, with a mission to conserve birds of prey and their habitats. Set in 22 acres of woodland and wildflower meadow, you can see an incredible range of different birds of prey species, from the tiny Burrowing Owl to the awesome Golden Eagle! Many of these birds are involved in our spectacular daily flying displays, whilst others are part of important breeding programmes. The Trust is also home to the National Bird of Prey Hospital™, that can treat up to 200 sick, injured and orphaned wild birds of prey each year. As well as a full daily timetable that includes flying displays, talks and activities, the Trust also offer a wide range of experiences to get even closer to these magnificent birds, as well as evening events to come back and see incredible bird-flights at different times of the day. The Common Kestrel is one of Britain's most recognisable birds of prey, famous for its remarkable ability to hover while searching for food. Often spotted above grassland, farmland and roadside verges, these agile hunters can be seen scanning the ground for small mammals and other prey items.

We're absolutely delighted to see the Barn Owl receive this recognition. As a species we work with every day, Barn Owls hold a special place in our hearts here at the Hawk Conservancy Trust.

We provide homes for Barn Owls and other birds of prey to nest and raise their chicks, through our Raptor Nest Box Project. Every successful nest helps to support the future of these iconic birds.

Seeing the Barn Owl celebrated in this way is a wonderful reminder of the importance of conserving our native wildlife and the habitats they depend on.

This week, Jillian and Wispa are helping us bust another classic owl myth!

For generations, people believed an owl choosing an abandoned building was a sign that ghosts were lurking inside...

But the truth is much less spooky. 👀

Owls aren't searching for spirits. They're searching for a safe place to nest! Empty buildings can provide shelter from the weather, protection from predators, and a quiet spot to raise their young.

So, if an owl moves into an unoccupied house, it's not a sign of a haunting... it's simply found the perfect piece of owl real estate! 🏡🦉

Over the years, Registrar and Animal Welfare Manager, Ryan, has formed a close connection with many of the Trust's owls. Next up in his owl mini-series is Troy the Tawny Owl.

🎥 A familiar woodland species to many, Troy is a fantastic representative of Britain's most common owl. Ryan shares more about Troy's character, as well as how him and Troy have been working together for almost as long as Ryan started his career with us 16 years ago.

Red Kites are one of the UK's greatest conservation success stories. Thanks to the dedication of all those involved in the reintroduction programmes that began in the late 1980s, of which we are proud to be a part of, these magnificent birds can once again be seen soaring across skies in many parts of Britain.
