We are thrilled to announce that the 20th Andover Scout Group is expanding! To keep up with the amazing demand for Scouting in our community, we are launching a brand-new Cub Pack! 🚀

Where: Picket Twenty Community Centre
When: Thursdays, 19:00 – 20:30
Who: Young people aged 8 to 10½

From backwoods cooking and coding to camping and community projects, Cubs is all about mastering new skills and having the adventure of a lifetime.

Want to get involved? Our group is run entirely by volunteers. To make this new pack the best it can be (and to get more kids off our waiting list!), we are looking for more adults to join the team. Whether you’re a "hands-on" leader type or a "behind the scenes" organizer (Social Media? Admin? Coordination?), we need YOU!

Parents who join the team help us open up spaces much faster. Drop us a message or comment below if you’d like to join the 20th Andover family! ⚜️

Do you love the great outdoors? Want to make 2026 the year you learn something new?

20th Andover Scouts is looking for all types to join our volunteer leadership team. Whether you’re an experienced adventurer or just love being outside, we want to hear from you.

Get Qualified in 2026
We're looking to send all our new volunteers on a dedicated skills course this May. You will get hands-on training and qualification in:

* Fire Lighting
* Axe and Saw
* Tarpology (Shelter Building)
* Knife Safety
* Campfire Cooking

Go Even Further
Being a leader with us opens doors to even more qualifications. If you have ever wanted to lead Rock Climbing, Canoeing, Axe Throwing, Sailing, or Rafting, we can help you get there.

The Best Part?
All our leaders' children are guaranteed a place within our Scouting group. This is a unique opportunity to learn new skills, give back to the community, and make incredible memories together with your children.

We’re looking for a few more people to join our team as we get ready to start a Cubs section in the new year at Picket Twenty Community Association community hall.

You don’t need any previous experience or background in Scouting. Some of us first got involved because our children joined, while others wanted to do something meaningful in the community. However you come to it, being part of Scouts is a brilliant way to meet new people, have fun, and make a difference.

You can give as much or as little time as you like, every bit of help counts. If you’re leading activities, supporting behind the scenes, or lending a hand occasionally, it all helps young people learn new skills, build confidence, and enjoy new experiences.

If you’d like to find out more or have a chat about how you could get involved, we’d love to hear from you so DM or leave a comment :)

And no this hasn't been written by ChatGPT/AI but me as a Group Lead Volunteer!

Chris.

This week our 20th Andover Scouts Beavers joined forces with the 9Th Andover Scout Group Hq Beavers for a brilliant joint session working towards their Disability Awareness Badge.

The Beavers had the chance to meet a therapy dog, learning about how animals can help people in different ways, and one of our own leaders shared their personal experience of living with a hearing disability.

It was a fun, eye-opening evening that helped everyone understand more about inclusion, empathy, and how we can all support each other.

Great Work!

As part of their Community Superhero badge, our Squirrels visited Andover Fire & Rescue Station lastnight. They had an amazing time touring the station, meeting and quizzing the firefighters, climbing over the fire engines, trying on real equipment — and even having a go with the water hoses!

A huge thank you to the team at Andover Fire Station for such a warm and exciting visit — definitely one of our best Squirrels sessions yet!

And before you ask, yes we will be arranging a trip for the Beavers in the new year. :)

Our Beavers had a monstrously good time before the half term break getting creative with toilet rolls, teamwork, and plenty of giggles! They transformed themselves into spooky Halloween mummies before dancing the night away to some monster mash tunes under the disco lights.

It was a brilliant end to the half-term — have a great break everyone, and we’ll see you soon for more fun and adventure!

Our Squirrels had a frightfully fun evening to celebrate Halloween! We started with a story — Christopher Pumpkin — which set the scene perfectly before the fun began.

Next came a lively relay race to collect the toilet rolls, followed by plenty of teamwork as the Squirrels wrapped each other up to become spooky mummies. Add in disco lights, monster mash music, and lots of laughter, and it was the perfect way to end the half-term.

Have a lovely break, Squirrels — see you soon for more fun and adventure!

Last night our Beavers blasted off into space as they worked towards their Space Activity Badge!

The session was led by our new leader, Connor, who took the Beavers on an out-of-this-world adventure exploring planets, stars, and all things space. They created their own space solar system model, and discovered what it’s like to be an astronaut with the help of Tim Peake!

A huge thank you to Connor for leading such a fun and engaging evening — it’s safe to say our Beavers are now well on their way to earning their Space Badge!

Being a Beaver Scout isn’t just about earning badges and having fun — it’s also about making a difference in the world around us.

Ollie and Asha from St Albans have been doing just that, raising money to help tackle malaria and protect communities from this serious disease. Their enthusiasm and determination show what Scouting is all about: learning, helping others, and taking action for a better world.

Take a look at their amazing efforts in this Newsround video:

Scouts in Ghana and cubs in the UK explain how they worked together to reduce cases of malaria in northern Ghana.

Back to traditional Scouting skills!

This week our Beavers got hands-on with their Camp Craft Badge, learning how to tie three new knots and discovering everything there is to know about tents — from the different components and the best places to pitch, to (of course) how to pitch one themselves.

And because learning should always be fun (and tasty), we used strawberry laces to practise our knots — which meant a well-earned feast at the end.

Fantastic effort, Beavers!
