PUBLIC MEETING

Tuesday, 9th June 2026 at 7 p.m.
in Appleshaw Village Hall

The Walnut Tree Public House, Appleshaw
· The Walnut Tree is for sale on the open market, which means it will become a free house when sold.

· The sale is subject to the terms of the Community Right to Bid scheme which gives a community group until Tuesday, 16th June to inform TVBC they intend to be treated as a bidder, i.e. no financial commitment will be required at this stage. A group would then have until 5th November 2026 to put a bid together and submit it.

· We proved the need for the pub in the community last year through the Community Asset process.

· We are aware there is interest in the pub and, for obvious reasons, finding a single buyer who has the community at heart would be the best solution. In case no bid is forthcoming, the purpose of the meeting is to see if a community group could come together to inform TVBC they intend to be treated as a bidder.

A G E N D A

1. Introduction

2. Discussion - members of the public.

3. Formation of Group to set up a formal structure:
Agree to form a group to raise funds to set up, for example, a community benefit society to buy the Walnut Tree.

4. Decision: to inform TVBC by midnight on 16th June 2026 that the group intends to be treated as a bidder to buy the Walnut Tree under the Community Right to Bid scheme.

5. AOB.

How hot is too hot for dogs?

As temperatures rise, it’s important to remember that our furry friends feel the heat too. Even a “warm” day can quickly become dangerous for dogs — especially puppies, senior dogs, flat-faced breeds, overweight pets, and larger dogs.

💧 Keep fresh water available
🌳 Walk during cooler hours (early morning or evening)
🔥 Avoid hot pavement — if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws
🚫 Never leave dogs in parked cars, even for a few minutes

Knowing the signs of heatstroke can save a life: excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or collapse.

Let’s keep our pups safe, cool, and happy this summer 🐶
